Using a PIR w/Arduino | PIR Motion Sensor | Adafruit Learning System | #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces

Reading PIR Sensors
Connecting PIR sensors to a microcontroller is really simple. The PIR acts as a digital output, it can be high voltage or low voltage, so all you need to do is listen for the pin to flip high (detected) or low (not detected) by listening on a digital input on your Arduino

Its likely that you'll want reriggering, so be sure to put the jumper in the H position!

Power the PIR with 5V and connect ground to ground. Then connect the output to a digital pin. In this example we'll use pin 2.

Cayenne IoT is fairly similar. It is necessary to pass through the servers of myDevices.com which can cause a small delay of latency (quality of Internet connection, server load …).

Guide for 8x8 Dot Matrix MAX7219 with Arduino | #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces

Guide for 8x8 Dot Matrix MAX7219 with Arduino | #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

The dot matrix that we’re going to use in this guide is a 8×8 matrix which means that it has 8 columns and 8 rows, so it contains a total of 64 LEDs.

The MAX7219 chip makes it easier to control the dot matrix, by just using 3 digital pins of the Arduino board.

I think the best option is to buy the dot matrix with the MAX7219 chip as a module, it will simplify the wiring. You can check the dot matrix at Maker Advisor and find the best price.

You can control more than one matrix at a time. For that you just need to connect them to each other, as they have pins in both sides to extend the dot matrix.

Welcome to Adafruit IO | Want to connect your project to the Internet? Start Here! | Adafruit Learning System | #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Want to make your project talk to the Internet? Connect your existing project to the Internet to log, stream, and interact with the data it produces? What about all this Internet-of-Things (IoT) stuff?

Adafruit IO is a platform designed (by us!) to display, respond, and interact with your project's data. We also keep your data private (data feeds are private by default) and secure (we will never sell or give this data away to another company) for you. It's the internet of things - for everyone!

Why We Built Adafruit IO
Here at Adafruit, we sell all of these amazing components, but we couldn't find a good way to interact with them over the Internet. There are certainly a lot of great services out there for datalogging, or communicating with your microcontroller over the web, but these services are either too complicated to get started, or they aren't particularly fun to use. So, we decided to experiment with our own system, and that's Adafruit IO.

Controlling a MAX7219 dot led matrix module with an Arduino Nano | #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces  | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

An 8×8 dot led matrix is a very interesting device because with proper instructions the individual leds or any group of leds can be programmed to fire. This characteristic, plus the feature that up to eight modules can be daisy chained, forms the basis for a nearly endless series of visual effects. Here we discuss the very basics of working with one MAX7219 dot led matrix module. A simple sketch is provided that creates a ‘smiley’ followed by a simulation of a bouncing ball.

How E-Ink Works: The Technology Behind E-Paper Displays - YouTube | #Displays #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces

E-Ink. It powers everything from the YotaPhone 2 to the Amazon Kindle. It's simultaneously one of the most understated and futuristic display technologies around. And it's being put to use in devices and venues you've never even thought of. But what exactly is E-Ink, and how does it work?

That's a question we had for the folks at E-Ink Corporation, the brains behind the world's leading electrophoretic ink technology, and they were more than happy to answer it. They invited us to tour their Innovation Center and Headquarters facility in Massachusetts to get a firsthand look at the technology behind E-Paper Displays, as well as some historical context and a few sneak previews of where E-Ink is headed next. Join us for this quick tour, and then visit E-Ink yourself for more: http://www.eink.com/index.html
