#Halloween: Possessed Portrait | #RaspberryPI #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Story
It's October again and I wanted to come up with a Halloween project using a Raspberry Pi. I saw a few haunted portraits scattered here and there but none of them really presented much in the way of a scare, just some simple movement.

I decided to expand on that idea and started looking for some good jump scare type videos I could use. This lead me to AtmosFx they have some really cool Unliving Portrait videos that are only $7.99 each. These were perfect for what I had in mind and allowed me to have more than one jump scare video that I could select manually or have it run each one at random.

Here is a video of the finished project.

Particle unveils toolkit to accelerate IoT adoption | #Microsoft #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces

Particle unveils toolkit to accelerate IoT adoption | #Microsoft #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

IoT-powered platform Particle has announced a collaboration with Microsoft to expand its suite of IoT development tools with the introduction of Particle Workbench, which aims to accelerate the time to market for IoT products.

The Particle Workbench will leverage Microsoft's code editor studio, Visual Studio Code, which according to Particle will offer IoT developers an "all-in-one and ready-to-use out-of-the-box experience to develop, program and debug professional-grade apps."

Particle CEO and co-founder, Zach Supalla said: "Our vision is to provide a fully integrated, seamless platform for developers to build the best IoT products possible, without the need to piece together individual costly features.

"We made the choice to work with Microsoft on the release of Particle Workbench in response to the urging of our customers who wanted access to a robust desktop development tool. Microsoft's leadership in building developer experiences and commitment to open source made them a natural choice," he added.

In our case, we use NODEMCU ESP8266, but you can use any other type of ESP8266 with all pins exposed. In our program, we connect D0, D1, D2, and D3 in a circuit, which controls the relays. The relays are using 5V. ESP8266 is using 3.3V. To connect the 3.3V ESP8266 to the 5V relay module, we use one NPN transistor 2N2222.

Make your own soda fountain out of cardboard | #Arduino #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces  | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

If you’re ever wanted to make something awesome, but thought that you just didn’t have the right tools to do so, this soda fountain by “The Wrench” could provide the needed inspiration.

The project uses an Arduino Nano to control a small air pump via a relay, which turns on when a glass is the correct dispensing position. This pushes air into a sealed soda bottle, and soda is pushed out of another tube to equalize the pressure.

Pull Up Your Pins: How to Size Pull-up Resistors (a bit necessary #Theory!) | #Arduino #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces #Electronics | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

One of the first lessons many people learn when starting off learning practical, hands-on electronics is the need for pull-up resistors. Whether to prevent floating I/O pins on a microcontroller or interfacing two circuits via an open-drain design; pull-up resistors are an often necessary but rarely appreciated component. So why do we use pull-up resistors, can’t we just connect a wire to the Vcc supply of our device? What size resistor should you use?

Stepper Motors with Arduino | #Coding #Maker #MakerED #MakerSpaces | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Learn how to control bipolar and unipolar stepper motors with an Arduino using drivers like ULN2003, L298N and A4988. In this article I’ll show you all you need to know to get started with stepper motors.

Introduction
Stepper Motors are used in a wide variety of devices ranging from 3D printers and CNC machines to DVD drives, heating ducts and even analog clocks. Yet despite their popularity many experimenters shy away from using stepper motors as they seem to require complex hookups and code.

In this article I hope to dispel that myth by showing you just how easy it is to use a stepper motor with an Arduino. So follow along, I promise to take you through all of this “complex” stepper theory one step at a time!

control Electrical Devices From user web browser using esp8266 Nodemcu | Internet Of Things | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Hi, in this tutorial we will see how to control electrical devices like fan, light, etc., to turn on and off using esp8266 from a web browser. if you are bored with a dedicated device controller like an app or an remote which will be available for only one particular device but using this method all the device which support web browsing will be act as a  controller for us.

Make sure all the devices are connected to the same router, this example doesn't include a port forwarding function which will not allow us to control the device from outside the home network.

Components that you need for completing this project are very simple, you need to have an esp8266 wifi module and a relay, make sure you buying a 5v relay which very easy to use with esp chips doesn't require external supply too. we can make use of the Vin pin of the nodemcu or if you are using a generic chip, you need to supply an external 5v to the relay.

Gust MEES's insight:

Hi, in this tutorial we will see how to control electrical devices like fan, light, etc., to turn on and off using esp8266 from a web browser. if you are bored with a dedicated device controller like an app or an remote which will be available for only one particular device but using this method all the device which support web browsing will be act as a  controller for us.

Make sure all the devices are connected to the same router, this example doesn't include a port forwarding function which will not allow us to control the device from outside the home network.
