Do you ever stop to consider what it means to think openly? Wasn’t that your basic education at school and what your parents told you to do? Whatever happened to that?
The question is important because today, more than ever, we are urged to be creative in our jobs. If you cannot think openly, how can you be creative?
From birth our parents persistently encouraged us to think for ourselves. It was non-stop; a barrage of parenting tips that were designed to help us become independent, confident and open thinkers.
The magnitude of closed thinking by individuals and organizations is on the rise. It's time for open thinking to reappear.

One in four American adults went to a healthcare provider for neck and back pain, according to a 2016 Gallup study. In addition, the report found 65% of adults sought care for neck and back pain at some point in their lives. When you factor in how many adults are hunched over computer desks, sitting for extended periods of time at work and bending their neck to read mobile devices, these statistics aren’t so surprising.
Just about everyone has been told to “stand up straight” at some point in their lives—and it turns out that mom was right. Posture is a key element to good health. It is right up there with eating healthy, getting enough sleep and exercising. Bad posture can lead to back, neck and jaw pain, breathing difficulty, balance issues and joint problems. A recent study also found that good posture can improve your mental wellbeing.
Many American workers suffer from neck and back pain, and sitting at desk all day is not helping. Here are five work habits that can lead to bad posture along with advice on how to fix them.

In an era when change is the new constant, organisations need a flexible learning culture if they are to survive. Many learning professionals are aware of the challenge they face – but they have not developed their own practice to meet the need for responsive and adaptive training.
As organisations strive for greater flexibility, there is a pressing need to be able to deploy and redeploy staff into shifting, virtual teams all around the world. High-level language and communication skills are key to achieving this. However, a third of organisations are not developing these skills quickly enough, according to the latest annual Speexx Exchange survey findings.
There are several steps that learning and development professionals can take to build a self-directed learning culture that will underpin flexibility and adaptability in their organisation.

When you’re in charge of running a company or a team, it’s easy to convince yourself that playing it safe is the responsible choice. Going out on a limb may be the last thing you want to do. But you need to take risks if you want to do more than just scrape by—especially in today’s economy.
The truth is, risk avoiders are also opportunity missers. Hoping that sales will get better or conditions will improve is the wimp’s approach. You can’t wait for everything to be perfect, because it never will be. You have to take action—accept risk and make things happen.
Following are 10 common risk avoidance excuses that may be holding you back:

The Health and Social Care Act 2012, secured explicit recognition from the Secretary of State for Health, to work towards ensuring 'parity of esteem' between physical and mental health, to ensure that people with mental health needs receive the same quality, education and quantity of services as those with physical health needs.
As a result there have been continuous calls for all areas of society to be better informed about how to support, care for and employ people with mental health issues.
And people living with mental health problems have a stronger voice in public debate than ever before, largely through social media. Mental health awareness needs to be a central part of any health and wellbeing agenda.

If you don’t embrace diversity, it’s kind of like not embracing technology,” said Mi’Shon Landry, director of supplier diversity for the central region at Zones Inc., a hardware, software and IT solutions supplier out of Auburn, Washington. By ignoring the importance of diversity in the workplace, “you’re going to get lost and left behind.”
According to projections by the U.S. Census Bureau, more than half of Americans will be part of a minority group by 2044. Also, by 2060, about 20 percent of the country will be foreign born. This inevitable diversity of the country means talent will reflect those demographics. If not, potential employees could shy away from a company, making it difficult to recruit talent.

One of the things I’ve been doing for years is using Design Thinking to get greater understanding and adoption when doing any analytics project. It focused the analysis and delivered actionable insights to the right person and in the right way faster than any other method. Recently, I decided to see if I could find some good examples of this approach being used at other companies and, to my delight, I found some excellent examples where, intentional or not, some fabulous companies and teams are using this to get high value results.

Are you sure your workplace is truly happy?
A seemingly happy office is not necessarily a truly happy office. We cannot always see the true nature of social relationships in a workplace environment, yet they play a huge role in the productivity of our businesses.
I recently had meeting with 15 people from different departments of one client’s business. The office itself was beautifully designed; open plan, lots of natural light, fruit baskets dotted all over the place, even a running track on the perimeter. On the surface there was a great atmosphere.
