5 Ecommerce Content Marketing Trends for 2017

5 Ecommerce Content Marketing Trends for 2017 | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

In 2017, content will continue to be one of the most important marketing tactics for ecommerce businesses. Look for content marketers to produce a greater number of videos, focus on mobile media consumption, spend more money promoting content, produce more shows rather than standalone posts, and use technology to an advantage.

Content marketing is the act of creating, distributing, and promoting content, such as blog posts, articles, podcasts, and videos with the aim of attracting, engaging, and retaining customers. For ecommerce marketers, content can be a way of building a relationship with a shopper, which in turn will allow an online store to compete not on price or delivery speed, but on experience.

What follows are five trends that could impact content marketing in 2017....

Twitter Just Shut Down Vine 4 Years After Buying It for $30 Million

Twitter Just Shut Down Vine 4 Years After Buying It for $30 Million | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Vine will not be an infinite loop.

It was four years ago this month when Twitter bought Vine for a reported $30 million, but now the relationship has fully withered. On a Medium blog post, Twitter revealed that it's shutting down the looping video app in the coming weeks.

"You'll be able to access and download your Vines," the post read. "We'll be keeping the website online because we think it's important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made. You will be notified before we make any changes to the app or website."

How long the Vine videos will live on the website is unknown, but creation of the mobile app's six-second clips has already been halted. It's a fairly surprising move....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

That's a very surprising move by Twitter – to close down Vine after attracting 200 million users. The problem is, at six seconds, Vines were never long enough and too limited in scope to tell a real story. Twitter is likely to undergo big changes, very quickly in order to survive. The layoffs and live streaming of NFL football are first steps in a new path to the future.

360-degree Content Could Revolutionize Consumer Experience on Mobile Apps

360-degree Content Could Revolutionize Consumer Experience on Mobile Apps | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Instead of tapping photos of shoe styles on retail mobile apps, imagine being able to pinch, swipe and tap to view the product in a 360-degree, interactive environment. Such experiences could soon be the norm on mobile, thanks to new technology enabling 360-degree immersive experiences.

In a nutshell, 360-degree video is video filmed in a complete, 360-degree panorama by using a special camera with multiple lenses. Users can click and drag inside the video to pan the perspective, allowing them to view the content from essentially any angle.

Several stunning examples of the technology are available on YouTube—but support is only available for desktop Chrome and Android devices. Users can pan around a hot air balloon in mid-flight for beautiful views, swim with the dolphins with GoPro, or experience a front-row seat on Saturday Night Live....

Video Content Makes Online Purchases 1.6 Times More Likely

Video Content Makes Online Purchases 1.6 Times More Likely | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
Online retail video views are growing at a rapid pace and influencing shopper behavior, a new study finds. However, it’s specific video content, not just mere brand exposure, that’s largely dictating shopping behavior.

Invodo’s Video Conference Benchmarks Report gathered data from 100 retail clients across a wide range of verticals, and the findings were impressive: Marketing videos displayed to online shoppers made a conversion 1.6 times more likely. That figure was the average across all retail clients, but the top performers well outpaced the field, with the best video campaigns increasing the likelihood of a purchase by 3.3 times.

These Web Stars Are Beyond 'Vine Famous'

These Web Stars Are Beyond 'Vine Famous' | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The social app Vine has created a whole universe of video stars whose antics have attracted millions of followers and made them "Vine famous." But social seems to be only the beginning. Take Nash Grier, with 9.3 million followers, who is spinning his Web notoriety into endorsements for brands like Virgin Mobile and even a film career. King Bach (aka Andrew Bachelor), with 8.2 million followers, is getting into the TV business and working with brands like Samsung. Check out their stories here.

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Cash, as in cashing in, is driving the six seconds of fame and fortune of these new Internet superstars. Don't know about you but they're already tired to me. The Vine "form" is limiting, you can't tell much of a story and one is very often similar to the next. I predict early adopters, then wearout, followed by "remember Vine?"

Why 2014 is crunch time for video content marketing

Why 2014 is crunch time for video content marketing | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

So why has 2014 become a make-or-break period for content marketing?Content is your first, second and third sales call.

For today’s consumer, a purchase journey no longer automatically begins in a physical store, or with a direct conversation with a brand representative.

Our lives may be getting busier, but we’re consuming more content than ever before, and it’s transformed us into self-directed buyers making purchase decisions informed by our own extensive online research. As such, content is now every brand’s first call (and often their second and third)and naturally it is under greater pressure to drive impact.

Enter video, an unmatched medium for both educating and storytelling, and one which is proving to play a highly valuable role in the content marketing mix, thanks to its suitability for social sharing and ability to win consumer attention (and, ultimately, to deliver solid ROI)...

2016 'It' Toy Already Sold Out, Leaving Parents In A Panic

2016 'It' Toy Already Sold Out, Leaving Parents In A Panic | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Toronto's Spin Master has done it again. The toy company that brought kids to a fervour over Zoomer robotic pets has created the hottest toy of 2016: Hatchimals. But they're already sold out everywhere, leaving parents in a panic.

WTF is a Hatchimal? Good question.

Imagine a large, speckled egg that hatches as a result of touch and sound. Inside, your child will find a bright, fuzzy robotic creature. It could be a Draggle, Penguala, Owlicorn, Burtle or Bearakeet (don't worry if you can't tell the difference, they look pretty similar.) That's when the fun starts. Kids then teach it to walk, talk and play using specific phrases.

"Hatchimals incorporate the very best elements of nurturing play with the interactivity of robotics in a truly innovative and entertaining way," Ben Varadi, Spin Master's chief creative officer, said in a press release. "This is one of the most unique products Spin Master has ever launched and we're confident that the consumer response will be strong."

Well, that's putting it mildly. The toy retails between $60 and $90 and it has sold out online everywhere. Sears, Toys R Us, Mastermind, Chapters... no one has it....

Coolest 2016 toy is already sold out. Watch the parent panic begin.

What makes video content marketing great? Follow these key principles

What makes video content marketing great? Follow these key principles | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

There is a cartoon from Tom Fishburne of Marketoonist where a young child says to her father at bedtime: “Daddy, instead of a story, can you read me some branded content?” Even though the cartoon was penned in 2013, the message still resonates. Anyone reading this will know content marketing can be a jewel in a campaign’s crown, but if it’s too obviously ‘branded content’, consumers will spot it a mile off and tune out much like they do with regular advertising.

By throwing another platform into the equation, such as video, it’s simply not good enough to assume the platform you’re using is the differentiator, and just repeat the same content. “The video media landscape is more sophisticated than ever, with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Vine revolutionising rich content discovery,” a paper from Cedar Consult argues. “The time has come for branded video to raise its game....”

The 10 Most Watched Ads on YouTube in March

The 10 Most Watched Ads on YouTube in March | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Public service advertising doesn't often go viral (indeed, PSAs rarely appear on Google and Adweek's monthly leaderboard of the most-watched ads on YouTube). But the Ad Council knocked it out of the park last month—notching almost 50 million views (it has since topped that) for the R/GA-produced "Love Has No Labels" spot.

Samsung, which often dominates the leaderboard, placed another two spots in March, battling Durex's "#Connect" ad for the No. 2 slot.

Elsewhere, Geico's unskippable pre-roll ads proved to be just that, as the family-dinner ad got more than 5 million views. And YouTube itself placed two spots on the March list, for one of its #DearMe spots and for YouTube Music Awards welcome video.

...Jarre gets paid to do all this, something that would, naturally, be a dream job for any kid with a smartphone. MTV enlisted him for its marquee event to share these videos on his Vine account, which boasts an impressive 7.2 million followers. The going rate for one of his Vines is $25,000. He pulls down $35,000 for sending a single Snapchat message.

Jarre has helped to transform the six-second looping video into an art form and a marketing vehicle. It all may look really easy, but it isn’t. Jarre has to measure every second, carefully inspect each frame, shoot and often reshoot what appear to be spontaneous moments. Six seconds can take as much as six hours of work. Why video is "liquid" content in a solid social media world - Schaefer Marketing Solutions

Why video is "liquid" content in a solid social media world - Schaefer Marketing Solutions | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

For video to be truly social we need to think about the technology in a new way.

...Video is exploding on the web today. Wider bandwidths, faster processors and increased storage capacity have opened the door for video to enter into the social web. So it becomes logical to ask, as Will Overstreet does in a recent post, “how do we make video more social?’

But if we are to ever achieve a truly social web video practice, technology designers will have to deal with the deeper contradiction in meanings between “social web” and “video.”

In his post, Will points out that video interactivity falls way behind in comparison to standard social media practices. He asks how we can make video live up to the same expectations and thus make the user experience more seamless. These are valid questions. I want to crack open the problem by using an analogy: video is “liquid”  and social media is “solid.”.…

Product Strategy: Pictures Are Worth a Million Words

Product Strategy: Pictures Are Worth a Million Words | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Why don't more businesses use pictures or videos to explain their products when they can make things so much easier to understand?

I recently purchased a great coffee maker, the Nespresso. Sometimes when you get a product like this, you pull it out of the box and consider skipping the instructions all together given how long it might take to read the four point type, right?

But wow, what a pleasant surprise, the Nespresso manual was...you guessed it...made up of pictures! It took no time for us to be sipping some fine espresso out of our new green machine. They've also got a great section right on their website called, "You have just bought a Nespresso machine", with content dedicated to the first use of your machine, troubleshooting, and how to register for the Nespresso club. It's super visual as well....
