This might come out sounding like learning requires the carrot on a stick but in fact, it's more about making work that might be tedious and based on drill and practice a bit more fun and competitive. Learning requires a much deeper engagement than can in my opinion be achieved with gamification techniques.

Les jeux sérieux – souvent connus et cités sous leur appellation anglaise de serious game – font aujourd’hui partie de la palette des technologies éducatives. S’ils sont principalement utilisés dans la formation professionnelle, on les retrouve aussi de plus en plus dans la formation scolaire générale des premier et second degrés. Mais qu’en est-il de leurs potentialités éducatives effectives ? Nous nous appuierons en premier lieu dans cet article sur une méta-analyse des effets cognitifs et motivationnels des jeux sérieux dans différentes disciplines. Dans un deuxième temps, nous convoquons une expérience de terrain menée auprès d’élèves de CM2 interrogeant précisément l’apport de ces jeux dans la motivation et l’estime de soi.
