PLNs enable us as educators to support each other and to learn, which in turn benefits our students.

The commonsense.org site gives 3 tips
1) Get connected and follow others
2) Get Inspired - through networking obtain lesson ideas and learn new tools
3) Give back and share with others

These align with APST - focus areas 6.2 and 7.4.  Through professional development we can improve professional practice.

Free Technology for Teachers: Social Media for Teachers

Free Technology for Teachers: Social Media for Teachers | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

"Earlier this week I Pinned a nice infographic from Scholastic about social media. The infographic, Social Media for Teachers, isn't terribly detailed but it could be useful for teachers who are new to social media. The infographic highlights some educators to connect with on Twitter and Pinterest. It also gives a short run-down of Twitter chats that educators should check out. The infographic is included below."

What is a Personal Learning Network?

What is a Personal Learning Network? | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it
As an educator, it’s important to understand everything that shapes your students’ education, both inside and outside of the classroom. You’re trained to study lesson plans and develop learning strategies and abide by district-wide standards. But what about your own development as an educator? What rules exist to help you maintain your professional growth?

Jürgen Wagner announced his “globinar” on Mon June 13 as being presented by “two outstanding members of the webheads community”. Learning2gether itself derives from Webheads in Action, so all concerned agreed to conduct the event in parallel with this week’s Learning2gether Episode 335.

The two Webheads in question were Dr. Peggy George, talking about Sources of Free or Low-cost Professional Development on Demand and the designated hostess of the event, Rita Zeinstejer.

Teacher 's guide on creating Personal Learning Networks | PLN | PKM

Teacher 's guide on creating Personal Learning Networks | PLN | PKM | Moodle and Web 2.0 | Scoop.it

As social media become more and more predominant as platforms of connection and collaboration, the need for creating and maintaining a PLN ( Personal/Professional Learning Network ) becomes more pressing. As teachers and educators we are expected to be on top of the latest trends that can inform and enhance our classroom teaching as well as our professional growth. We are also expected to know the web tools that our students use and the new ones we can use with them in the future;  but this is not always possible and  because not all of our time constraints it becomes difficult to keep up the the new releases . It is at times  like these that you can call upon your PLN.

Depicts exactly what I am exploring at the moment as part of my #H812 studies and MA in Online and Disctance Education.  Chosen however not to 'network' Facebook as I tend to use it socially rather than professionally.
