Advances in computing have expanded our capacity to solve problems at a scale never before imagined, using strategies that have not been available to us before. Students will need to learn and practice new skills — computational thinking (CT) skills — to take full advantage of these revolutionary changes brought about by rapid changes in technology.

ISTE and the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) collaborated on a project to prepare young learners to become computational thinkers who understand how today's digital tools can help solve tomorrow's problems. Because both associations believe that CT is vital for raising the level of achievement, preparing students for global competitiveness and blending academics with real life, they have made the resources below free to all educators.

CHICAGO — June 27, 2018 — The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and TED announced a partnership that will encourage educators to spread innovative ideas and powerful stories of teacher impact. 

Starting fall of 2018, ISTE members will receive exclusive access to a new TED Masterclass program, an interactive course designed to support educators in using the power of storytelling to share their challenges, successes and inspiration from the classroom. 

“We chose to partner with ISTE because their members are such passionate, engaged advocates for learning in innovative ways,” said Stephanie Ng, TED-Ed program manager. “The world needs to hear their powerful stories, and we are excited to help make that happen.”

Detroit — October 9, 2018 —  The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) announced its new ISTE Standards for Educators: Computational Thinking Competencies (CT Competencies) during the CSforALL Summit, which followed ISTE's first-ever No Fear Coding Lab, held in Detroit.

CT Competencies focus on the knowledge, skills and mindset needed to bring computational thinking (CT) to all K–12 content areas and are designed for all educators, including those who are new to computer science. The CT Competencies represent the first-ever approach to correlate and align the ISTE Standards for Educators, the K–12 Computer Science Framework and the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) standards for students. Schools of education across the country will also use the CT Competencies to prepare new educators to lead the way with CT skills.
