Comparison of Screencasting Tools

Comparison of Screencasting Tools | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it
Screencasting is a fast and easy way to capture what is happening on your screen along with your voice or video of you speaking. Teachers can use screencasts to create self-paced lessons for students, tutorials, and supplements to sub plans. Students can use screencasting to tell stories or demonstrate their understanding of a topic or concept. There really are no limitations on screencasting can be used in schools.

A Handy Chart Featuring Some of The Best Tools and Apps for Creating Educational Screencasts ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

A Handy Chart Featuring Some of The Best Tools and Apps for Creating Educational Screencasts ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it
A screencast, also known as video screen capture, is a great way for teachers to create and share instructional videos and explanatory step-by-step tutorials with students. regardless of the purposes for which you are creating a screencast, the quality of your video screen captures can sometimes impede the communicative intent of your message. Therefore, knowing what tools to use to create educational screencasts is as important as the content of the screencasts themselves. To this end, we have curated for you this collection of some of the best screen casting tools out there. We have divided them into four major categories: Web tools, Chromebook apps, iPad apps, and Android apps.

Redefining Learning Through Screencasting ~ Edutopia

Redefining Learning Through Screencasting ~ Edutopia | Into the Driver's Seat | Scoop.it

by Beth Holland

"One of the most valuable tools afforded by iPads is the ability to screencast -- to combine audio, images, drawing and text on a whiteboard to create a video. Given the multitude of outputs afforded by this one type of app, what if we focused on accelerating learning through a single tool?

"As Kristen Wideen (@MrsWideen) demonstrates with her mixed first and second grade class, screencasting bridges the gap between the physical and the virtual in order to extend the learning context. Through the use of theExplain Everything app, in conjunction with a paper-based project, she encourages meta cognition and provides students with a voice to explain their thinking. In a similar vein, consider the learning target of presenting knowledge, demonstrating understanding, and offering an explanation. Not only does the following example from MIT offer an exposition of structures, but it also incorporates persuasive writing skills and complex communication."

Teachers use Screencastify to help explain information to students on their device. It is important for teachers to know how to use these applications and teach their students how to use them as well. Students should be able to implement Screencastify to explain their learning. A great example used is for a student to explain a math problem and share the video with their teacher for feedback.

Record Your Computer Screen and Voice Easily with StartMeeting Studio

Via Robin Good
Jim Lerman's insight:

This appears to be a very powerful tool.

Robin Good's curator insight, June 20, 2013 12:17 PM

StartMeeting, a cost-effective multi-feature web conferencing and collaboration service has introduced StartMeeting Studio, a free tool which allows you to record your own presentations, tutorials or screencasts, archive them online or download them and share with your readers across key social media channels.

StartMeeting Studio is effectively a free but effective screencasting tool which allows you to record both your computer screen activities as well as your own voice.

During recording you can pause and restart the recording at any point. The final recording is immediately available after you press the Stop button, can be viewed right away or downloaded as an .flv file.

Works across Macs and PCs.

You don't need to have any previous account with StartMeeting to use this. Just sign-up and go.

My comment: Very easy to use. Effective, reliable out of the box. Good extra bonus the ability to download the recording.

Free to use.

How To : Visually Record Ideas Using an iPad

Visual recording is similar to audio recording: they both use the same concept that is : recording. One uses voice and the other uses visual cues like diagrams, charts, lines, arrows...etc. Think about visual recording as visual mind mapping.

This is Visual Recording and NOT (in this case) Visual Facilitation

Group Video Chat, IM and Screen-Sharing of Movies and Applications with Rabbit

Via Robin Good, Jim Lerman
Robin Good's curator insight, February 8, 2013 4:06 AM

Rabbit is a new downloadable software app (for Mac only now) that allows you to instant message, video conference with multiple parties and to screencast and share in real-time any music, video clip or app.

"Today, a startup company called Rabbit is launching a closed beta of their "video chat and content sharing application".

But the best way to describe it is a cool and very modern implementation of instant messaging.

The most compelling feature of the app can be distilled down to this: group video conferencing with the ability to screencast music, movies and applications from your Mac.

This means you can watch a movie from a service such as Netflix with your friends in real time. Or you can crop and share a specific part of your web browser or any other Mac app and broadcast it to your friends.

The app is a native Mac client (other platforms to come later), and offers the ability to video chat with an unlimited number of people. People are grouped into Rooms and presented to you in priority based on your own friends, and within each room, individual groups can participate in their own conversations."

Très utile pour se lancer dans les capsules !

Alison Rostetter's curator insight, March 26, 2017 11:02 AM
I let my business class do presentations on screen-casting.  It gets them a speaking grade for the end of term.  The reason I do this is a) so they can get it out of the way whenever they have time - the deadline is fairly long and b) they tend to take more trouble over it than if it were just an ordinary presentation, in front of the class.
