Choosing the Right Adaptive Learning Technology

Choosing the Right Adaptive Learning Technology | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

An Adaptive Learning Program (ALP) is a computer-based educational system that allows teachers to modify the way they present materials based on the performance of individual students.

The history of ALPs is rooted in 1950s cognitive psychology and the 1970s artificial intelligence movement. A proven teaching method, ALPs are now used in varied environments to train and teach more effectively. For example, NASA uses ALPs for safety models and simulation training. They’ve also been used by the U.S. military, including the 2015 Army Learning Concept that educated and trained soldiers for asymmetric engagement. But ALP’s most significant potential to help the most people is likely in the educational field.

Learning technology: six steps to choosing the right tools

Learning technology: six steps to choosing the right tools | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

The challenge is that it’s not realistically possible to understand each individual user and their specific needs, so there has been a tendency to categorise people and label them – professionals, millennials, evangelists, retirees, teenagers, etc.

Can I Use That Picture? How to Legally Use Copyrighted Images [Infographic] | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
What was once a web filled with code and scrolling text, the Internet is now the world’s largest conglomerate of images. And as visual content continues to rule, the number of images available online will only grow. But just because you can Google an image — and technically copy or save it — doesn’t mean the web is a free-for-all of visual data.

The answer is no. My last Scoop it topic described this. There's no other law to override  the Copyright Law People are always trying to assume that they have a way to violate the Copyright law. But, once the big lawsuits start swarming, a person regrets trying to break the Copyright law

How to Use Learning Goals to Pick the Right Technology Tools –

How to Use Learning Goals to Pick the Right Technology Tools – | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Three different schools, in three different states, in a matter of two weeks.

I got the same question.

“How can I use Flipgrid in my class?”

“Have you tried this with Flipgrid?”

“Oooh, this would be perfect with Flipgrid!”

It seems that Flipgrid has teachers and school leaders around the country (and world) excited to use its product for learning purposes.

But, last summer I was bombarded with the same questions about Formative and Google Classroom.

Before that, it was PearDeck and Nearpod.

Why Book Selection is Always Up for Debate, Part 2 | Guest Post - A Long Tale

Why Book Selection is Always Up for Debate, Part 2 | Guest Post - A Long Tale | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Editor’s Note: Today’s post is by Bob Nardini, continuing on from yesterday’s post which can be found here. Bob is Vice President, Library Services at ProQuest Books. In 1985, a few years out of library school at the University of Toronto, he began to work in academic bookselling and has been involved with library book collections ever since. Bob is based in ProQuest’s office in La Vergne, Tennessee, outside of Nashville.

Sustainability
If librarians had largely moved on, if patrons were oblivious, and faculty quieted years ago, this didn’t mean the end of debate over book selection, one never wholly owned by librarians. Another participant, from the start of approval plans in the 1960s, had been booksellers, who advocated for approval plans not only in their sales calls, but often in the library literature and at conferences.

Aaron Chatterji and Benjamin Jones argue that the lack of rigorous evaluation currently available for educational technology tools must be addressed and articulate general principles that should guide the evaluation of educational technology. These evaluations have the promise to fill in critical information gaps and leverage the potential of new technologies to improve learning. They also present a case study of a new platform, EDUSTAR, conceived by the authors and implemented with a national nonprofit organization.
