Hybrid learning has the potential to make higher education more flexible, accessible and efficient — but not without concerted effort, a new Educause report says.

The 2022 Educause Horizon Action Plan: Hybrid Learning, published Monday, includes exercises for institutional leaders looking to maximize the potential of hybrid learning on and off campus. The document is based on a July meeting of higher education experts who discussed their vision for hybrid learning.

Blended Learning: What and Why

Blended Learning: What and Why | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Today teachers at all levels of instruction and in all disciplines likely make use of online tools, services and information. In a face-to-face class, Internet resources supplement what is supplied by the instructor and print materials, while online learning and course management services facilitate student coursework and help track learning progress. In completely online courses, the Internet supplies the medium of instruction, and interactions with peers, instructor, and materials occur digitally. Increasingly popular today is blended or hybrid learning, which combines the best features of face-to-face and online courses.

Blended education gets my vote - in the same sort of way that variable speed limits do - personalised choice driven by emerging communication media - relevant to a connected future whilst keeping people skills personal.

Sound approach in my opinion.

Raj Shekhar Mishra's curator insight, March 17, 2015 2:15 AM

The future of our classrooms is bright if we can carefully blend innovation with sound principles of education, rather than let one replace the other.

Hybrid learning: the next big change in online learning?

Despite all the hype about MOOCs, hybrid learning is probably the most significant development in e-learning – or indeed in teaching generally – in post-secondary education, at least here in Canada. I am seeing many universities (13 in six months so far) developing plans or strategies to increase the amount of hybrid learning. The University of Ottawa for instance is aiming for 20% of all sections to be hybrid within five years (which its Board feared was ‘too timid’ a target.) UBC has just started a major development called its flexible learning initiative which aims to radically transform first and second year undergraduate teaching and reach out to new markets. Hybrid learning is a cornerstone of its strategy.

Making Hybrid Learning Happen in Higher Ed | EdTech Magazine | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
When the pandemic struck, and in the year that followed, higher education found itself grappling not only with how to transition entirely to remote learning but also with an existential crisis of sorts. Facing concerns about student technology access, tenuous enrollment numbers, value propositions and more, higher education quickly realized it needed a path forward. In remote, online and hybrid learning, some colleges and universities are finding that path — or at least some of its paving stones
