Flipped Classroom 101: Challenges, Benefits & Design Tips |

Flipped Classroom 101: Challenges, Benefits & Design Tips | | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

The flipped classroom model shifts the transfer of information online and moves practice and application into the classroom. Classically, the transfer of information has occurred in class via lecture and practice has been assigned for homework. The value of this inversion is that students can pace their progress through a video (pausing, rewinding, rewatching). They also have the benefit of a supportive peer group and the subject-area expert as they attempt to apply new information.

Flipgrid sounds like an excellent tool whether you're k-12 or higher ed-students love videos, plus they get to add their ideas about what they are viewing too.

Engage Students with Flipped Video Tasks

One of the major criticisms of this method though is that a dull unengaging content doesn't suddenly become engaging because it's on a video on the web, so how do we get students to engage with the content and make sure they watch it in a challenging and interactive way.

Vialogues is a useful tool for attempting to do this (though dull content will always be dull) because it enables you to create interaction around the video that actually gets students to think about and engage with the content.

Flipped classroom model is similar to what we do with the NSM prep via LMS. Some feedback has been that we need to tape role play best practices and show the perfect role play so that reps can model that at the live training.
