Supporting Teachers in the Digital Age

Supporting Teachers in the Digital Age | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
We know that teachers matter more to student achievement than any other school-related factor, including services, facilities and leadership. Yet for years we’ve forced teachers to work in a system that values testing over teaching, resulting in little to no change in student achievement.

12 Different Types of Blended Learning (Top Models) - TeachThought | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Blended Learning is not so much an innovation as it is a natural by-product of the digital domain creeping into physical spaces.

Broadly speaking, blended learning just means a mix of learning online and face-to-face, which means it’s likely your students are already doing some form of blended learning, and have for years.

As digital and social media become more and more prevalent in the life of learners, it was only a matter of time before learning became ‘blended’ by necessity.

Digital teaching and learning resources: An EduTech reader

Digital teaching and learning resources: An EduTech reader | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
real textbooks in real shopping carts ... so *that's* where the metaphor comes from! Yesterday the World Bank hosted a great discussion related to strategies for tackling the high cost and low availability of textbooks, with a specific focus on needs and contexts across Sub-Saharan Aftrica. This event served as the Washington, DC launch for a World Bank publication which debuted last year at an event in Cote d'Ivoire, Getting Textbooks to Every Child in Sub-Saharan Africa: Strategies for Addressing the High Cost and Low Availability Problem. (Those interested in the topic of 'textbooks in Africa' more generally may also wish to have a look at a companion book published by the World Bank in 2015, Where Have All the Textbooks Gone? Toward Sustainable Provision of Teaching and Learning Materials in Sub-Saharan Africa.) As a complement to yesterday's discussions, a number of posts related to the use of digital teaching and learning materials that have appeared on the World Bank's EduTech blog have been collected here, to make them easier to find, and in case making them available in this way can help in a small way to help enrich any related conversations. (Please note that additional links will be added to this page over time as relevant related posts appear on the blog.) ---

Digital learning rebooted

Digital learning rebooted | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

In March 2020, UK higher education embarked on a sudden shift to digital learning. In the vast majority of cases, it wasn’t a designed and fully realised transformation of teaching and learning.

It was an emergency response to an unprecedented situation that relied on upskilling staff rapidly enough to enable them to deliver the remainder of their courses, and assess them, in as effective and equitable way as possible.

The extent of this digital shift, and the tools, techniques and platforms used, varied not only between universities but also within them, depending on the demands of different departments and the confidence and capabilities of the staff.

The Important Distinction Between ‘Digital’ and ‘Technology-Enabled' Learning

‘Digital’ may seem unattainable, and almost alien, to a lot of L&D, because we’re so used to using technology in service of our programmes. But it’s actually easier, cheaper, faster, and better.

10 Lessons For The Digital Teacher -

10 Lessons For The Digital Teacher - | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

If you’re a teacher, and you’re in any way digital (and you presumably are if you’re reading this), there are some strategies you might consider to lubricate the interaction between the two.

And that’s where Lessons Learned from Lecturing from Laura Pasquini, Ph.D., comes in. In this fairly short presentation, Dr. Pasquini (whose blog you can find here) offers 10 lessons for the digital teacher. The strength in these tips is in the practical and flexible value each idea represents.
