A survey of 1,000 16-24 year olds, commissioned by Jisc, found that three quarters (75%) of higher education students surveyed believe that having staff with the appropriate digital skills is an important factor when choosing a university. 99% of students think that technology is becoming increasingly important in education, while 62% believe technology keeps them more engaged.

The Challenges of Digital Leadership

The Challenges of Digital Leadership | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
By far the most prevalent issue I see in schools struggling with their technology integration and implementation is the lack of a collective vision for how digital learning tools will be used to enhance learning. Schools often purchase software, computer devices, and technology-based learning systems because they are effective marketing tools for recruitment, or because they want to keep pace with the digital investments of rival institutions, or simply because they fear appearing outdated. None of these have to do with learning, of course, and inevitably are insufficient to smooth over the challenges that arise as digital tools enter classroom spaces.

Digital Identities & Digital Citizenship: Houston, We Have a Problem | the theoryblog | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
A couple of weeks back, I gave the closing keynote in Keene State College’s Open Education spring speaker series.

It was a rumination on Open as a set of practices and a site of identity, particularly for those of us in higher ed. I wanted to consider what it means to engage in digital scholarship – and digital leadership – from an identity perspective rather than a role perspective…especially for those of us for whom the standard higher ed roles and labels of student/staff/faculty may be only partial or precarious, aspirational rather than fully institutionalized.
