The Impact of Content Curation on User Experience

The Impact of Content Curation on User Experience | information analyst | Scoop.it

When it comes to online marketing, user experience (UX) drives conversion rates and customer loyalty.

User experience comprises design, content, the speed of a website or application, and more.

However, content influences UX more than most other factors. If leveraged well, it motivates users, guides them, and converts them.

In this post, I’ll share how content curation can improve user experience for your audience.

The Ethics of AI in Content Creation: Balancing Automation with Originality

The Ethics of AI in Content Creation: Balancing Automation with Originality | information analyst | Scoop.it

With recent developments in generative AI, the question of ethical content creation and the use of human-made content has come into question. And while the generative AI industry is still in its infancy, many companies must take measures to balance automation with original high-quality content.

It’s still very early to tell which direction the generative AI industry will take and what limitations will be placed on generative AI platforms. So for now, companies using this technology are the ones responsible for guaranteeing ethical use and protecting the rights of content creators. Here is how some companies can find a balance between automation and originality.

One of my go to list sources for finding topic relevant articles, videos and podcasts is Feedly RSS Reader.

One of its nice features is how Feedly shows the number of shares from the Feedly CommunityI make sure the Title and Image are compelling before I consider sharing the piece to my social channels.

If you do this right and long enough,. over time your readers will come to rely on your curation skills and maybe even an authority and a subject matter expert. For me, I shooting to be known as an SME for Social Content Marketing..

About ScissorsflyIn the spirit of freedom and creativity, we designed Scissorsfly. For the first time ever, you will be equipped with something that frees your imagination to creatively collect and organize everything you love on the web, and share them with friends.

Scissorsfly originates from an open hackathon hosted at LinkedIn, when Sillicon Valley tech talents from places like Google, Twitter, LinkedIn, or CMU, MIT, Stanford, Berkerly came to play. We won the championship with the idea called ClipIt, which becomes the magic scissors at your hand today.

Web 1.0 gave you static webpages. Web 2.0 gives you interactions and collaborations with the web and the world. Scissorsfly will give you not only that, but also the initiative to tailor the web at will. It will be an experience beyond the long lasting web 2.0...

Finally, you can run wild with these scissors.
Their MissionCollecting and organizing information is really important to us. However, it could be painful from time to time. We built Scissorsfly for you to enjoy the process.
TeamWe are an early stage startup based in Mountain View (CA) and Chicago (IL). Our team is small and close-knit, with both strong engineering (e.g. Google, Yahoo!, Linkedin, eBay) and research (e.g. security, data mining, machine learning) backgrounds. For anything interesting, drop us a line at support@scissorsfly.com.

Create, Publish and Curate Your Company Social Hub with Uberflip

Create, Publish and Curate Your Company Social Hub with Uberflip | information analyst | Scoop.it

Via Robin Good
Robin Good's curator insight, February 11, 2014 5:26 PM

Uberflip is a new web publishing tool that allows a company to easily create a social hub populated with the most relevant content coming from their main media properties, including blogs, RSS feeds, social media channels, images and videos, presentations and PDF documents.

Uberflip publishing metaphor is the "hub" in which, similarly to Rebelmouse and Pressly you can create multiple channels where you either aggregate or curate theme-specific content.

Among Uberflip unique features there is the ability to import and convert PDF documents into editable flipbooks, an array of widgets that can be added to integrate more functionalities (e.g.: Disqus comments) and a call-to-action feature allowing you to integrate customizable and elegant subscription boxes that directly connect to your newsletter provider (e.g.: Malchimp).

Check my test site to get an idea of what you can do with it: http://robingood.uberflip.com/h/

My comment: Compared to Rebelmouse, Pressly, Uberflip is a tough contender. Its key strengths are the elegant and clean output design, which displays excellently also on tablets and smartphones and the breadth of features for curating and collecting content (e.g.: custom collections). Uberflip is also the only tool of this kind that integrates a PDF to flipbook conversion engine, allowing you to integrate any company PDF into one or more collections in a beautiful format to view.

The Basic version, which allows for one hub with multiple channels, one custom collection and one CTA costs $49.95/month. Higher priced versions at 199 and 499/mo allow for using your custom domain, more collections, CTAs and additional features including analytics and other features.

Pricing info: http://www.uberflip.com/pricing

Free 14-day trial.

EdCanvas is a web service which allows you to search, find, clip and collect any kind of content, from text to video clips and to organize it into visual boards for educational and learning purposes.

Differently than Pinterest, EdCanvas is specifically targeted at the education world and at schools and teachers, and it makes possible not just to collect "images" from web pages, but to collect and organize whichever content elements you want, including full web pages.

EdCanvas boards also offer the ability to easily reposition each item in the collection according to your preferences and it provides a number of pre-set layout options for displaying content in your boards.

The strongest feature for EdCanvas is an integrated search engine, which allows you to search for images, websites, video clips across Google, YouTube and Flickr, and lets you grab and drop any relevant result into anyone of your collections. Furthermore Edcanvas can connect directly to your Dropbox or Google Drive giving you access to all of your personal library files.

Scoopit vs Wordpress: And The Winner Is... via Curagmai | information analyst | Scoop.it

.
Scoop.it Crushes
Wordpress
The @Scoop.it team has done an amazing job. Their content curation tool anticipates what is going to happen next beautifully as a stat we found by accident proves.

How does Scoop.it compare to Wordpress?

We wrote and Scooped a post on the 5 Reasons We Are Leaving Wordpress ( http://sco.lt/590bYn ) earlier. As we shared that post in our Web Design Revolution Scoop.it feed ( http://sco.lt/5Hy5Q1 ) we wondered  how the tools would compare.

As we noted in our post the comparison isn't straight up. We've used Scoop.it longer, but we've put more time into Wordpress  since 2014 (by far). So differences in usage may be moot, but results sure are not.

Results speak to many things including the "lean marketing" and critical role content curation plays in our marketing future as @Guillaume Decugis and the Scoop.it team preach. The biggest win is in the TIME to RESULT ratio. Scoop.it is a snowball rolling down hill now.

Momentum and good friends such as @massimo facchinetti, @malek , @Ana Cristina Pratas @Cendrine Marrouat - https://www.cendrinemedia.com and @John van den Brink (to name only a few) mean what any content marketer needs most - a supportive tribe of advocates - we have...on Scoop.it. Not so much on Wordpress.

How does Scoop.it compare on our 5 Reasons We're Leaving Wordpress?

* Spam - Had some in the beginning, but @Marc Rougier Guillaume and the team CRUSHED spam now threatening to choke WP.

* Unrealized Promise - Scoop.it under promised and over delivered vs. Wordpress

* Bad SEO - Our first feed, Content Revolution (http://www.scoop.it/t/curation-revolution ) has fallen to #6 after owning #1 on Curation Revolution for years.  I'm to blame here. since I put so much time into Wordpress (who knew :).

* Crap Overload - Scoop.it is BUILT to filter the web's CRAP into effective content curation with tools such as their keyword based spider and community suggestions. Scoop.it FILTERS CRAP into meaningful content with ROI attached.

* Multi-platform Content Curation - That phrase describes Scoop.it's mission so they CRUSH WP here too.

No matter how you cut the stats, content curation beats blogging and Scoop.it crushes Wordpress (period, full stop).

Making Sense of the Internet Through a Gallery of Maps

A good example of content curation at work is the Vox feature collection entitled "40 maps that explain the internet", which showcases in a highly digestible and visual format where the Internet came from, how it works, and how it's used by people around the world.

Although at first glance this may look just as a list of maps with descriptions, there's a lot of curation work that can be appreciated by looking just a bit beyond the surface.

a) Titles and descriptions are well crafted, short, focused, but consistently clear and to the point.

b) The 40 maps are intelligently organized into six different groups:

  1. How the Internet was created
  2. The Internet around the world
  3. Threats to the Internet
  4. The geography of online services
  5. How America gets online
  6. How we use the Internet

c) Images of maps sourced from elsewhere are properly credited and linked.

To the ignorant eye, this will look like "oh, just another collection of maps", but to the avid reader, scholar and to the curious enough to look beyond appearances, the value of this editorial work is on how it perfectly hides the amount of complexity and research work it has required while organizing and presenting an extremely clear and comprehensive body of valuable information on the chosen topic.

Curated by Timothy B. Lee together with editor Eleanor Barkhorn,

designer Uy Tieu and developer Yuri Victor.

A good example of curation at work. 8/10

So are Content Marketing and Content Strategy the same? No, but they are clearly related, so a better question to ask might be: are these two practices compatible with each other? Definitely!...

This is definately something that anyone in the coming new century needs to learn how to do effectively.  Do we want regurgitation or depth of learning from knowledge gained?   I value, for example, how Scoop.it allows for the 'web interface' to be looked after, by them ,and the curation and learning happens with us!

Ness Crouch's curator insight, June 22, 2013 5:05 PM

Excellent article and video. Looking at the wonderful world of the internet and curation. The idea of curation of online content has become more and more inportant with the exponential growth of content on the world wide web. Being able to organise and manage all of the content is important.

Curation is about making good choices about what you share and putting it into a context for themselves and others. Being enthusiastic and thoughtful about what you choose is a way of showing what you are finding and sharing is signficant and worthwhile.

Finding the most interesting and valuable things and sharing that is the key. What you want and what you are interested in is important but you also need to consider your audience.
