9 ways real students use social media for good

9 ways real students use social media for good | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it
Think nothing good can come from encouraging students to use social media? Consider what these former students from Minarets and Design Science high schools in Central California are doing. I asked these students how they use social media as an academic tool and how that shaped both their high school and post-secondary success. Here’s what I learned.

6 Techniques To Enhance Learner Motivation In eLearning - eLearning Industry

6 Techniques To Enhance Learner Motivation In eLearning - eLearning Industry | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it
We often talk about the importance of learner motivation in eLearning. In fact, we’ve even said that motivation is often more important than the specific content when seeking to maximize the impact of instruction – particularly in eLearning, where relatively few social or external environmental factors are likely to inspire learners.

This has a great deal of surface value, in that motivation is actually a factor in all of human activity. For example, it’s been over 95 degrees here every day for the last week, and my motivation to work outside has plummeted. Of course, lacking motivation affects my level of effort. If willing effort is the only result of creating motivation, then saying that “designing for learner motivation in eLearning is important” is not really that significant. Of course it’s true, but it is so general a statement that this insight gains us very little in trying to really improve instruction. But actually, our focus on motivation has very specific importance in instruction.

Student engagement can be a real challenge in this sudden shift toward distance learning. But one way to improve engagement is by empowering students. In this article, we explore how to improve equity and access

Patricia Cruz's curator insight, September 13, 2023 9:45 PM
As educators we have to think of each child's situation at home. Be mindful of what what could be happening in their home setting. We must be generous because we do not know the chaos that could be occuring. We must empower students in all distance learning environments. On the other hand, we must encourage students to chase their curiosity.

Inside a Student’s Hunt for their Own Learning Data

Inside a Student’s Hunt for their Own Learning Data | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

Institutions have access to more student data than ever before—but it's hard to really grasp what that means, since many of the digital tools that colleges use are from third parties or companies that keep their algorithms private. That makes it hard for students, professors or even journalists to get a glimpse inside.

5 Reasons to Pilot Student Podcasting Projects - John Spencer @spencerideas

5 Reasons to Pilot Student Podcasting Projects - John Spencer @spencerideas | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

"I just learned that New York City doesn’t actually have alleys. Okay, they have a few private alleys. However, after listening to the latest 99% Invisible podcast, I learned that the idea of alleys throughout NYC is a bit of a myth. Does this matter? Probably not. But it’s what I love about podcasts. I love the surprise of learning random historical facts on Hardcore History or rethinking creativity from 99% Invisible. In other words, I love geeking out.

But it’s more than that. My favorite podcasts push my thinking and help me see things from a new perspective. I discover new frameworks and blueprints. They can be purely geeky or imminently practical.

As a former teacher and current professor, I’ve spent years having students create podcasts. While the platforms and audiences have evolved, I love the idea of students sharing their voice with an audience."

Developing a Student-Generated Virtual Museum for Ubiquitous Learning - A Design-Based Research Study | LinkedIn

Developing a Student-Generated Virtual Museum for Ubiquitous Learning - A Design-Based Research Study | LinkedIn | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it
Currently, dramatic changes take place in terms of rapidly emerging modes of communication, technologies, increased cultural diversity, evolving workplaces cultures, new challenges for equitable education and the varying and changing identities of students everywhere. Bearing this in mind, this article draws on a design-based research study to argue of the need for museums to respond to global trends and fulfill their social and educational imperatives by investigating the potential of a particular pedagogical framework that is grounded in culturally inclusive pedagogical practices and characteristics of ubiquitous learning.

A useful resource on appropriate implementation of educational technology and its practical implications for students. This empirically-based study, indicates that addressing museum-based multiliteracies within a blended learning environment can be meaningful for ubiquitous learning.
THE OFFICIAL ANDREASCY's curator insight, October 6, 2017 4:20 PM

In this article, a design-based research approach is presented, which utilizes multiliteracies pedagogy to support ubiquitous learning during the design of a student-generated virtual museum. The findings from implementing the museum-school synergy, indicate that there is potential for beneficial ubiquitous learning experiences for students when theory-based practice is undertaken.
