About ScissorsflyIn the spirit of freedom and creativity, we designed Scissorsfly. For the first time ever, you will be equipped with something that frees your imagination to creatively collect and organize everything you love on the web, and share them with friends. Scissorsfly originates from an open hackathon hosted at LinkedIn, when Sillicon Valley tech talents from places like Google, Twitter, LinkedIn, or CMU, MIT, Stanford, Berkerly came to play. We won the championship with the idea called ClipIt, which becomes the magic scissors at your hand today. Web 1.0 gave you static webpages. Web 2.0 gives you interactions and collaborations with the web and the world. Scissorsfly will give you not only that, but also the initiative to tailor the web at will. It will be an experience beyond the long lasting web 2.0... Finally, you can run wild with these scissors. Their MissionCollecting and organizing information is really important to us. However, it could be painful from time to time. We built Scissorsfly for you to enjoy the process. TeamWe are an early stage startup based in Mountain View (CA) and Chicago (IL). Our team is small and close-knit, with both strong engineering (e.g. Google, Yahoo!, Linkedin, eBay) and research (e.g. security, data mining, machine learning) backgrounds. For anything interesting, drop us a line at support@scissorsfly.com.

SCOOPS -- I began using Scoop when I was defining myself a LITE FEET DANCER. There was no single source of info about Lite Feet dance, a NYC Born Battle dance phenom and YouTube Sensation. I created LITE FEET SCOOP TO reference for my own resume but also to provide anyone interested a link to the multitude of YOUTUBE Channels, Sound Cloud and personal sites dedicated to this unique art form and the talented dancers who participate.

In this white paper authored by Jeonghyun Kim, Edward Warga, William Moen and entitled "Competencies Required for Digital Curation: An Analysis of Job Advertisements", the authors review a total of 173 job advertisements posted between October 2011 and April 2012 were collected from various sources to take into account varying types of professionals in the field of digital curation across North America. "Position title, institution types and location, educational background, experience, knowledge and skills, and duties were examined and analyzed. The results of the analysis show that digital curation jobs are characterized by a complex interplay of various skills and knowledge." The authors also identified their first version of a set of iCAMP competencies, defined as: knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes to carry out a wide range of professional functions in support of digital curation responsibilities.
1) Communication and interpersonal competency: This competency is required for clear and effective communication with a variety of audiences, including users, creators, managers, researchers and collaborators. 2) Curating and preserving content competency: This competency is required to understand and carry out a range of activities as defined in the digital curation lifecycle model, including the creation, acquisition, management, representation, access, organization, transformation and preservation of digital content.
6) Services competency: This competency is required to identify, understand and build services to respond to a community’s and/or institution’s digital curation needs.
Very useful. 8/10 Full PDF: http://ijdc.net/index.php/ijdc/article/view/8.1.66/317 The International Journal of Digital Curation. ISSN: 1746-8256 (Thanks to the University of North Texas and to UKOLN at the University of Bath for their contribution.)

This is a great idea although I don't see where, from just reading the description of what it does, where it's any different than Reel Surfer or Keeeb or probably even a few others.
There's no doubt, however, that curating and aggregating video content can be a beneficial service to lots of niches.....etc. specific styles of cooking, auto repair, golf tutorials, dancing (e.g. videos on 'cross body lead').
I'll definately subscribe to the site and try it out. I'll sell you what I wish I cold find: I wish I could find a tool that made it really easy to insert notes that would display at specific points in vidoes. A lot of times I see videos where most of it it not interesting but a certain portion of it is.
Alexander King's comment,
May 9, 2013 8:16 PM
@wanderingsalsero: Simple. Reel Surfer and Keeeb do not allow you to have a persistant, global playlist. Also Keeeb isn't just focused on playable media.. it's a lot of different things. The "liner notes" that you are referring to are a feature that is coming soon to CratePlayer!

Steve Rosenbaum was the first to call curators super heroes of the Web and I love the expression as it clearly conveys the value they bring to their audience as well as the goodwill and benefit they receive in return. Heidi Cohen articulates that in greater details in this post in a very clear way and also gives actionable tips.

Although at first glance this may look just as a list of maps with descriptions, there's a lot of curation work that can be appreciated by looking just a bit beyond the surface. b) The 40 maps are intelligently organized into six different groups:
c) Images of maps sourced from elsewhere are properly credited and linked. To the ignorant eye, this will look like "oh, just another collection of maps", but to the avid reader, scholar and to the curious enough to look beyond appearances, the value of this editorial work is on how it perfectly hides the amount of complexity and research work it has required while organizing and presenting an extremely clear and comprehensive body of valuable information on the chosen topic. Curated by Timothy B. Lee together with editor Eleanor Barkhorn, designer Uy Tieu and developer Yuri Victor.

Here's a valuable resource on content curation, "distilled" by the students of the DCurate MOOC lead Martin Couzins and Sam Burrough which organizes over 60 different articles, guides and tools on the topic.
This resources collection is presented in the form of a Pearltrees interactive map, organized into eight sections:
1. Why Do We Need Curators
2. What Is Digital Curation
3. Aggregation vs. Curation
4. It's All About Audience
5. How Do We Find Valuable Content
6. How Do You Decide What To Curate
7. Curation Tools
8. Contributions from participants
If you are new to content curation this is a good resource to bookmark and keep as a reference.

Robin, on the second map, I'm not able to see the whole map in one view - only each section .. is that a settings thing?
One thing I don't like about Prezi and the presentation in Mindomo is the zoom in and zoom out - it gives me vertigo .. maybe I'm just old school .. (LOL) .. but I imagine it gives you different transition effects.
