The PASA Program to develop a mod­ern and sus­tain­able olive farm­ing and olive oil pro­duc­tion sec­tor in Algeria has con­cluded.
According to Paul Lompech, the program’s head of com­mu­ni­ca­tion, PASA estab­lished a net­work of resources, pro­vid­ing small farm­ers and millers access to the lat­est knowl­edge and best prac­tices for grow­ing and milling olives over the past five years.

Le coup d’envoi de la campagne oléicole à Tizi-Ouzou pour la saison 2023/24 a été donné jeudi à partir de la commune d’Aïn Zaouia, à 45 km au sud-ouest de Tizi-Ouzou, sous le mot d’ordre de la nécessité du travail et de l’entretien des oliveraies pour faire face aux aléas climatiques. C’est au niveau de l’huilerie moderne de Boussaad Zemouche, sise au village Ath Boumahni (Aïn Zaouia) et en présence des différents intervenants dans la filière (services agricoles, chambre d’agriculture, conseil interprofessionnel, instituts de formation agricole, assurances) et d’agriculteurs, que l’ouverture de la campagne a eu lieu.

Alors qu'elle vient tout juste de débuter, la récolte d'olives dans le pays devrait s'avérer "exceptionnelle" selon l'Office national tunisien de l'huile (ONH). "La production d'huile d'olive va varier entre 260 et 280 000 tonnes contre 100 000 tonnes lors de la saison 2016-2017 et 140 000 en 2015-2016", indique Chokri Bayoudh, Pdg de l'ONH. Le retour d'une bonne pluviométrie, après deux années de sécheresse, explique cette embellie.
