Goed en overzichtelijk stappenplan om naar de social media marketing te kijken. Met de waardevolle toevoeging (die nogal eens wordt vergeten door bedrijven) dat het bij alle automatisering wel om mensen gaat en niet om logo's.

In Story Selling | Cut the Clutter and Tell a Great Story | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it

"From annoying pop-up ads to often completely irrelevant video pre-rolls, the clutter is causing consumers’ “BS meters,” as digital rock star Gary Vaynerchuk has called them, to become more sensitive and accurate than ever before."

"So while the speed of technology is increasing, it’s interesting to note that one of the hottest trends in online marketing might just be the age-old art of story-telling."

"What does this mean? To cut through the clutter, businesses need to stop annoying, and start telling stories." - Lisa Ostrikoff

Ken Jondahl's curator insight, February 14, 2013 8:46 AM

The article focuses mostly on the visual marketing via web/ads/etc and is dead on in the conclusions. However, think about your sales people.

Are they really prepared to go out and have conversations with customers which include great stories around your company, the people and how you help customers?

If not, the next time an annoying pop up ad hits you in the face. Think about how your customers feel when your sales person visits and goes on and on about the product features and benefits.

It is not about it, it is all about how it is used. In sales we need to get to the point and tell a great story around the product usage.

I love that point Martin! I think people call it social because of the personal element to it as opposed to advertising and things like that, especially because it's so interactive in nature. Do you have a suggestion as to what to change the name to?

Can Content Curators of Today Help Find Old Meanings & Lost Information?

Can Content Curators of Today Help Find Old Meanings & Lost Information? | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it

Amanda Bell, grammar school principle looks at content curation today and feels  barrier to entry is nonexistent and may be hampering our ability to find information that has any depth and may not be accurate. She worries that this will not be good especially for young people who are just starting out beginning to learn about the world.

My input:

I say, curation is a news delivery system for those who have already found their trusted sources and a research tool for those who have not.  We're at the beginning stages on content curation, cream always rises to the top.  I am definitely of the opinion that those who are driven to learn and understand something will delve deeper to find the truth no matter what.

What do you think?

Excerpt:

In an article posted by Popova about Eli Pariser's new book, The Filter Bubble: Algorithm vs Curator & the Value of Serendipity, she asks whether it is a good thing that the web filters content for us.

It can be argued that old media (newspapers, radio, television) have always been selective and in more recent times their reach has spread beyond a single city or country. In fact, there has been global sanitising of the media networks' news headlines owing to the immediacy of access to information (including each other's information) thanks to effective and fast new communication technologies.

The question here, however, is whether the role of curator is any more sophisticated in these online contexts than the old media position of editor.

Top 30 Business and Marketing News Sources by Forbes

Top 30 Business and Marketing News Sources by Forbes | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it

Michael Brenner has put together a useful list of the top 30 news sources you should be following if you are interested in online business and marketing news.

Useful, resourceful. 7/10

P.S.: In my humble opinion, this list is tainted by the author placing the magazine he writes for (Forbes in this case) as the top one in the list. As a curator this is something I suggest to avoid like the pest as it instantly taints your supposedly impartial collector skills with a way too evident marketing effort, which dents significantly into the credibility of the overall list and the on the reputation of the writer.

In my effort to help others recognize effective curation from simple-minded content marketing efforts I feel quite important to highlight such small details, as even though they may appear of no relevance to some people today, they will have enormous importance - in my opinion - in the near future.

What is the role of storytelling in PR?

What is the role of storytelling in PR? | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it
Are you sitting comfortably? Then listen to PR leaders discussing the power of storytelling to build brands and energise businesses (Interesting read "@ThePRCoach: Good read: What is the role of #storytelling in #PR?

I love this post that reminds us all about the power of storytelling for businesses. Here Public Relations leaders share with us how stories are critical to use in business for branding and building a strong customer base.

Stories are everywhere, but the real trick is the following, says Tom Watson, professor of public relations at Bournemouth University: “For brand communicators, the challenge is to create narratives that are deserving of trust by their target markets and sustainable over time."

I also like what Kevin Murray, chairman of PR agency the Good Relations Group, says: “I use stories to entertain people at dinner parties to amuse. But in business you need to tell stories that make a difference.” Good point!

Go read what the PR professionals in the article have to say. There are great insights.

Social Consumers and the Science of Sharing [INFOGRAPHIC]

Social Consumers and the Science of Sharing [INFOGRAPHIC] | A New Society, a new education! | Scoop.it

This post is from Mashable and it has valuable information for your brand marketing strategy. It tells you what your social consumer is most influenced and much more.

"This is an excellent article and a great analysis of the new age, social consumer segmentation. says Chris Abate and I must say I agree with him!

The emphasis on search as being still the main way people research products might be a reality but it’s fast being challenged by social, word-of-mouth referrals from the people we trust must in our lives, our friends/family.

The advent of Sponsored Stories in Facebook’s new plans will continue to erode the dominance of search as the means by which people research products as prep for purchases."

Intro:

If you’re buying a car, do you check Facebook? Or do you read up on Kelley Blue Book values and scour the company website for every spec, from horsepower to miles per gallon?

What about music — do you check Top 40 radio charts or scope out what your Facebook friends are actually listening to on Spotify?

Social media has infiltrated the purchasing funnel, helping consumers make informed decisions, from what to have for lunch to where to go on vacation. Depending on the decision, sometimes you turn to your social graph, and sometimes you turn to Google.

****So, as a brand marketer, you want to know what online channels you should be targeting in order to reach the perfect audience for your product.

But regardless of what kind of consumer you’re trying to reach or what you’re selling,

****your SEO better be top notch — search is the most important influence on the web.

The infographic, featuring data from M Booth and Beyond, analyzes the differences between high and low sharers and various purchasing decisions, helping brands to understand how should be targeting consumers.

You'll find some amazing statistics this is definitely worth your time.
