I was created to showcase some of the new capabilities of Microsoft Cognitive Services. These new capabilities are the result of years of research advancements (some of them summarized here). Specifically, I use Computer Vision and Natural Language to describe contents of images. I am still learning, so sometimes I get things wrong.

This AI bot from MS tries to describe pgotographs. Might be nice to get student to improve on the descriptions.

We all make mistakes when we write, and it would be nice if a computer could help us see the ones that spell checkers miss. Grammar checking is hard because language is squishy, so you can’t just write down the rules and check that they are followed. This lack of regularity is why grammar checkers have always been so poor.

English syntax highlighter

This is a syntax highlighter for English. It uses natural language processing to determine the part of speech for each word and highlights accordingly. It works with tricky sentences too, e.g. The man we saw saw a saw.

The syntax highlighter for English uses colours to determine correct speech for each word and will highlight accordingly. It can also be used with complex sentences to help break it down into smaller parts. A great tool when demonstrating to year 3 students.

The History of Weddings by Nik Peachey on iBooks

This lesson is based on an infographic about weddings, their history and some related customs and practices.
In the lesson students will explore their opinions of weddings and marriage and discover some new information about the origins of various wedding customs.
The aims of the lesson are:

  • To help students explore and articulate their existing opinions of marriage and weddings.
  • To help students understand and evaluate visual information.
  • To develop students’ abilities to check and evaluate the credibility of information.
  • To help students develop their abilities to carry out online factual research.
