The jellyfish known as the Bonaire banded box jellyfish was officially described in a paper published in 2011. Although the jellyfish was known to the public for many years, it took over ten years to gather specimens and documentation required to carry out the formal study required to establish it as a new species. The scientific name, Tamoya ohboya, was selected through an internet contest, open to the public. Read more at: http://blennywatcher.com/2012/02/09/bonaire-banded-box-jelly-tamoya-ohboya/
