For Milan's Design Week (2011), celebrated Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid created a vortex-like three-dimensional structure in the 16th-century setting of Milan's State University. Called Twirl, it was made for Interni magazine's Mutant Architecture and Design event as as a contemporary study on courtyard architecture. Interni Magazine just released this video where Hadid talks about installation art and what she hoped to accomplish with this daring (and temporary) piece.

The studio "Sanfte Structuren"by Marcel Kalberer and his followers experimented with rooting willow rods that were turned down again and green living structures.
Known as the “Mother of all willow palaces” this living structure was created in 1998 in Aeurstedt, Germany in the region between Weimar and Naumburg.
