As deep-learning AI models continue to improve, the implications for future Xbox and Windows PC games are truly staggering.
Good point: what we’ve called AI in gaming is really not AI. NPC’s or computer-opponents are using rule based or deterministic algorithms rather than machine learning. This article explores where machine learning could make an impact in future games, particularly when it comes to automated content development.

The gaming industry has exceeded expectations with an explosion of new online platforms and apps, but who are the consumers driving the boom?
Think gaming is relevant only to the gaming industry? Think again. Gaming has exploded last year and, as a lifestyle trend, is more and more relevant to a growing number of industries and brands.

Lexip helps you build 3D scenes, navigate in space, move objects, cameras and control vehicle simulators.
Lexip thinks they can. By adding a couple of joysticks to a mouse they enable gamers to control everything without the need for a keyboard. Interesting to see how it's adopted when it launches.

As a point of comparison, its closest competitor, "Dota 2," has just 13 million monthly players.
Are MOBA the future of gaming?
Not a fan of the genre but it's impressive to see the numbers scale up so high.

YouTuber Daniel Luchau recreated what "World of Warcraft" would look like if it were made in 2015. To create this updated world Daniel used the gaming engine Unreal Engine 4, which is often used to power virtual reality games.
Yes, WoW is old. Very old in tech years: more than a decade.
For those of you who played or still play WoW, you'll recognize StormWind's suburbs and how much more beautiful they are rendered in this video.
But as a matter of fact, the lack of advanced graphics is probably not going to kill WoW. The lack of evolving gameplay most surely will.

Blizzard's Chris Metzen is retiring. He was with the company for 22 years, seeing it go from a small startup to a global juggernaut in video games.
The guy behind the stories is moving on.

Far Cry is beautiful and one of the first open worlds I enjoyed. Before I discovered WoW and logged a lot of miles on Azeroth. Great point on why stories and missions are not the only thing there is in a game. In my opinion though, single player games leave a lot of that aimlessness aside. its a lot more fun to me to go for a walk and chat aimlessly with another gamer than be on your own. The whole idea of Second Life - which critics to at article could point the lack of long term traction of - was to be an aimless game, wasn't it?
GTA series are also great games where you can just enjoy being in the game with no particular purpose. I like flying planes and driving bikes in GTA III San Andreas...

Hello Games wowed viewers last year with a debut trailer. At E3 2014, the developer showed us how to build a universe and what to do there.
The project is ambitious, especially for a small studio such as Hello Games. But the procedurally generated universe could mean a totally new experience for gamers.
Finally a WoW-killer?

When men play female avatars in online games, they change the way they speak to conform to female stereotypes—but the way they move betrays their masquerade. In a recent study reported in Information, Communication and Society, researchers created a custom-built quest in World of Warcraft—the popular online game where players...
You've heard about gender theory in the real world. Here's how game designers might actually influence us more than we think when it comes to choosing an avatar's gender.
