As a young person I personally think that keeping healthy is not only important but a necessity for everyone. Now that we are quarantined in our homes it is even harder to exercise compared to our norm al daily routine. This may be because many of us cannot go out to the gym to get a moderate workout done or go for a run in the local park. On the other hand, there are many other physical activities you can do at home with family that could be just as enjoyable.

The mum of an obese teenager claims she didn’t realise his weight was a problem until his hip collapsed due to his enormous size.
Sue was horrified after her 15-year-old son, Harry, was rushed to A&E for major surgery after his 18st weight caused the accident.
The “risky procedure” was made more dangerous by the lad’s weight as the risk of blood clots and infections increase when the patient is obese.

The data was taken from the Health Survey for England, which found that the majority of adults (64 per cent) in England were overweight or obese and one fifth of 10 to 11 year olds are living with obesity.
Obesity, which is classed as a body max index (BMI) or over 30, is a major risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes, an important driving factor for heart and circulatory diseases.
Commenting on the analysis, Chris Askew, Chief Executive at Diabetes UK, said:
“We’re facing an urgent public health problem. Tackling this requires ambitious and sustained action from national governments, across sectors and departments. That’s because, right now, it’s hard to be healthy.”

I grew up in a teetotal household and my siblings still don’t drink. I was with my English ex-husband on my first visit to a pub and I asked the baffled bartender if they had any herbal teas. By the time we split up, I was pairing wine with my food and turning my nose up at the lower shelves in the alcohol aisles at Waitrose.

Tesco stores have now given out more than 100 million pieces of fruit as part of the retailer’s pioneering Free Fruit for Kids scheme.
The initiative allows parents to grab fresh apples and pears from stands in the fruit and veg aisle for their children to snack on while they do their shopping.
Free Fruit for Kids is aimed at helping children get one of their five a day, as well as helping to make the shopping journey a little easier for parents. Research by Health Survey for England in 2017 showed that less than one in five children aged 5-15 (18 percent) managed five portions of fruit and vegetables.

Most day-to-day diseases don’t seem to care what sex you are: man or woman, those coughs, colds and stomach bugs latch on regardless. But, says a report in The Daily Telegraph, there’s clear evidence that COVID-19 is different. Across the world, scientists are reporting that men are much more likely to suffer severe symptoms from the illness, meaning more will succumb.

Social media users are more likely to eat fruit and veg - or snack on junk food - if they think their friends do the same, a new study has found.
The research, by Aston University's School of Life and Health Sciences, found that study participants ate an extra fifth of a portion of fruit and vegetables themselves for every portion they thought their social media peers ate. So, if they believed their friends got their 'five a day' of fruit and veg, they were likely to eat an extra portion themselves.

Some time before the coronavirus outbreak put a damper on this year’s hanami (blossom viewing) parties and other social activities, the media had already noted that the decline in alcohol consumption by younger Japanese has been accelerating. This phenomenon even made the front page of the Nikkei Marketing Journal (Feb. 21). Citing data from Suntory Holdings in 2019, the article also noted that the market for nonalcohol and low-alcohol beverages such as beer and The Kyoto-based distiller concluded that more people are drinking nonalcoholic beverages not merely as a substitute for alcohol — as would be the case among drivers or expectant mothers — but because they prefer it.
The company noticed that young, salaried male workers, who make up a key segment of its customer base, had begun leaving their jobs at an earlier hour, which, in turn, led to a lower demand for alcoholic beverages accompanying their meals.

Transport emissions make up 33 percent of UK domestic carbon emissions. What's worse, 70 percent of all road trips are under five miles.
For the large majority of the population these journey's are eminently doable by bike or walking. But for decades governments have resolutely refused to invest the necessary resources to create a national, physically protected cycleway network.
While road and high-speed rail investment programmes are measured in the tens of billions, cycling investment is measured in the miserly low millions.

There has been a resurgence in the salt intake linked with the incidence of heart disease, stroke, and stomach cancer and increased higher healthcare costs. A pact with the food industry made to reduce dietary salt intake in the population has not been successful in the UK. Such pacts that lack robust and independent target setting, monitoring, and enforcement are not likely to give optimal health outcomes.
