While brands have been buying ads for niche audiences on Facebook for years, they’ll soon be able to target ads down to the specific household.
Just in time for the holiday-planning season, the social network is introducing a new household audience feature that will let brands direct ads to entire families or to specific people within a household. The tool, which the company announced today, could help aim ads at people who influence purchasing decisions and other ads to the people making the actual purchases.
It will be interesting to see how companies will use this feature to target new customers.

The most significant update to the iPhone in three years promises not only to upend the smartphone market but Apple's financial results for several quarters.
On the heels of the iPhone's 10th anniversary this week, and before Apple unveils its expected new models in September, analysts expect flat year-over-year iPhone sales as consumers wait for the revamped phones. After that, however, they expect record-setting sales, dwarfing the success of the wildly popular iPhone 6.

For most people, the main sensory stimuli delivered by Austin, Texas are the sweet aroma of roasting meat, the sticky gooey feel of BBQ sauce on the chin and fingers, and the fiery hit of bourbon washing down the gullet, writes Sonali Fenner, global business director at JWT London.
But for the week of SXSWi, it’s far more about immersive experiences inflaming the senses – with smell and touch at the top of the pile in 2016.
Over the years, we’ve sporadically seen panels and demos pop up which tackle one or other of the perceptive inputs.
The festival in 2013, for example, was the year of touch and Leap Motion. The rise of 360-degree video and virtual reality a few years later threw the spotlight on ambi-sonic and binaural sound techniques. Providing vital signposts and narrative cues in this more unstructured storytelling canvas.
While there were some senses standing alone this year (notably smell), 2016 appeared to be the year of immersive, cross-modal experiences which focused on the amplified outcomes of multiple senses working together.

Likely in an attempt to provide fans with some much-needed diversity, Apple is now working on some sort of smart ring. Or at least that’s what a recent patent filing leads us to believe. The documents were filed last week with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and show a ring-like device that’s jam-packed with all sorts of interesting tech and sensors. We’re talking motion and biometric sensors, microphone, a haptic feedback system, camera, and a touchscreen display. That’s right, it would appear that Apple is working on a smart ring that somehow features a display, as unlikely as that may seem.

The world around us is screaming with signals our original five senses don’t detect. Unlike some snakes, we can’t sense infrared with our naked eyes and unlike ducks and geese, we don’t have a native intuition for magnetic fields. But we’ve got pretty incredible brains, which we’ve used to craft ways to augment our five basic senses for a very long time.
While you could argue that this process goes back to the creation of language, it started getting serious with the adoption of the compass for navigation by China’s Song Dynasty in the 11th Century. With this breakthrough, humans could suddenly compensate for their lack of innate magnetic sensitivity with a piece of technology. For the first time, our species could leverage the Earth’s magnetic fields and use them to help us be better at life.

Unique ideas are hard to come by in this competitive app market, and even if there is a unique app, chances are high that someone else will develop a similar app and let users get it for free.
Unless you have developed an app that has “paid and successful” written all over it, I feel that it is always better to keep mobile apps free for download. But I’m sure the biggest question on your mind right now is: “how can I make money from free mobile apps?” Fret not, dear developer… there are ways (and pretty effective ones) that can promise to generate ample revenue from your free mobile app.
