Over the last few weeks, Google has been rolling out some cool new features and functionalities to Google Drive. For those of you who haven’t seen them yet, below is a quick overview of the major new releases. Our favourite feature in this collection is number four which allows Drive file owners to set expiration dates for access to files they share with others. After the expiration is over ,file receivers are denied access.

I’ve been a long term advocate of the use of infographics in education and especially enjoy thinking of ways that students can be encouraged to engage with and question the content as well as create their own graphics, so when I rediscovered Visme.co I was really delighted to find the tool that I once thought was a PowerPoint substitute for creating online presentations had turned into an awesome interactive infographic creator.

There are hundreds of ways you can use google apps in the classroom to enhance instruction. Google has built multiple apps that are not only useful as productivity applications, google apps can also be used as learning applications to help you disseminate information. It’s quite possible you ar using Gmail for your own personal email or perhaps your entire organization uses it if you have signed up as Google Apps for Education account. Google is all about giving you tools to find information and really that is all education is. You teach students math or English or the history of the world, but the most effective teachers not only disseminates information, but they teach the students to teach themselves.

Using Twitter in my classroom has certainly elevated my tech savvy status with parents as well as my instagramming 5th graders who have never known a world without digital devices. We live in a very social world, so why not use social media in the classroom? Social media is a part of daily life for millions of people on our planet and it’s not going away any time soon. Using it in my classroom allows me to model appropriate use and teaches my students necessary skills they will need for their lives beyond our classroom.
