This footage is from first ROV dives to deep-sea vents ~2.4 km down on the East Scotia Ridge, near Antarctica, from RRS James Cook Voyage 42 in January-February 2010.

This compilation was released to the media in January 2012, to coincide with publication of the vent discoveries in the open access scientific journal PLoS Biology:
