A shell game of incorrect facts
In a letter to the editor on Feb. 5, former Newtown Supervisor Gerry Couch claimed the recently passed township tax of 1.0 millage dedicated to the Newtown Township Ambulance Squad and fire hydrant maintenance means residents’ taxes are “going up” $168 for the average household.
Only owners of a house valued at $1.68 million will see their taxes go up $168 in 2018. As for the Average Joe like me, whose house is valued at $340,000, the tax will go up $34. I could save two to six times that by switching to a different trash pickup company.
Mr. Couch claims Democrats have engaged in a “shell game” when he himself has engaged in a shell game of misrepresenting the facts (and figures) in order to frighten Newtown residents into believing that their taxes are going up $168.
