It’s been said that there are no stupid questions. But are there stupid question headlines?
People ask search engines questions all the time. People are seeking answers to all kinds of questions. They want to know the who, what, where, when, why, and how on a variety of topics.
These types of pages also tend to rank well, get shared, and attract links. For example:
- Google kills Right Hand Side Ads: what does this mean for marketers and users? Search Engine Watch (3K shares, 226 links)
- Microsoft Wants Autistic Coders. Can It Find Them And Keep Them? – Fast Company (47K shares, 93 links)
- Trump’s history of corruption is mind-boggling. So why is Clinton supposedly the corrupt one? – Washington Post (867K shares, 144 links)
But could question headlines actually hurt how your content performs in the long-term, especially in organic search?
Yes. Yes they could.

Eric Schmidt predicted that sales of smartphones would surpass PCs more than six years ago, as the then-Google CEO prepared the world for the “mobile-first” culture at the Mobile World Congress in 2010.
Fast forward to today, and we’re witnessing the birth of a new mobile era where consumers interact and convert in what Google describes as mobile micro-moments — the key points of time when a user is interacting with their mobile device because they want to know something, go somewhere, do something or buy something.
As marketers, measuring mobile moments that matter — by understanding and optimizing mobile traffic, mobile engagement, mobile conversion and mobile revenue — is critical to developing a successful mobile-first strategy that improves performance.

It’s been years since the power’s shifted away from marketers and advertisers and in favor of Internet consumers. Now more than ever, people are empowered to choose their own experiences online. They’re actively avoiding ad content — and instead of living by advertisers’ rule books, they’re deciding what to click on, what to read, what to download, and what to buy … and what not to.
And they have a lot of choices.

Twitter has been taking it on the chin in the media, but its prominence remains. Though growth has slowed, Twitter’s 320-million current active users represent an all-time high.
If the race is about users, Facebook gets the gold with 1.7 billion active users. However, according to Edison Research, Twitter users are three times more likely to follow brands than Facebook users. 49% of monthly Twitter users follow brands or companies, compared to just 16% of social network users overall.
