Le troisième partenaire étranger à avoir rejoint SpaceResources.lu va pouvoir développer son projet d’atterrisseur lunaire modulaire pour explorer le satellite naturel de la Terre.

Établie au Luxembourg dans le cadre de l’initiative Spaceresources.lu, la japonaise Ispace a annoncé ce mercredi avoir effectué une levée de 90,2 millions de dollars pour son projet d’exploration de la Lune.

Ce montant est le plus important jamais levé dans le secteur spatial commercial, en dehors des États-Unis.

Parmi les investisseurs figurent l’Innovation Network Corporation of Japan, la Development Bank of Japan, Suzuki Motor ainsi que Japan Airlines.

Google hat einen weiteren Schritt in Richtung Datazentrum in Luxemburg gemacht. Am Montag wurden die Kaufverträge für die rund 33,7 Hektar Land unterschrieben. Wann der Internetgigant mit dem Bau des Zentrums beginnen und welche Ausmaße dieser haben wird, ist vorerst nicht gewusst.

Wirtschaftsminister Etienne Schneider (LSAP) bestätigte uns am Abend den Abschluss der Kaufprozedur für das Gelände. An Google sei es nun, die weiteren Schritte zu bestimmen, sagte er. Für ihn persönlich sei dieser Vorgang das Ergebnis der Regierungspolitik in Richtung Diversifizierung der Wirtschaft in den vergangenen Jahren, insbesondere in den Bereichen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik. Luxemburg bleibe interessant und die Regierung habe die richtigen Entscheidungen getroffen.

Die Entscheidung von Google zeige, dass Luxemburg im Bereich Datenzentren ein Leader sei, so Premierminister Xavier Bettel (DP) in einer kurzen Erklärung am Abend. Ein weiterer Beweis dafür sei die vor kurzem von Estland in Luxemburg eröffnete „Data embassy“. Das baltische Land verwahrt hochsensible Daten von Staat und Regierung in Luxemburger Datenzentren. Auch andere Staaten seien interessiert, so Bettel gestern . Seit längeren Zeit bereits verwahrt auch die EU-Kommission ihre Daten in Luxemburg.

Option d’achat de Google sur le terrain de Bissen
Depuis, l’on attendait une décision de Google… Qui ne s’était jamais exprimé sur ce sujet. Toutes les communications relatives à ce projet émanaient du ministère de l’Economie. Jusqu’à cet après-midi. Google Benelux, par voie de communiqué, a annoncé avoir mis une option sur un terrain de 37,7 hectares dans la commune de Bissen.

« La décision sera prise en temps voulu »
C’est encore toutefois trop tôt pour affirmer une future implantation sur le territoire d’un nouveau data center. Elle confirme cependant l’intérêt de la firme pour le Luxembourg.

« Nous voulons nous assurer de disposer de toutes les options pour étendre notre présence en data center en Europe si notre activité le requiert », a indiqué Michiel Sallaets, porte-parole de Google Benelux, lundi après-midi. Selon Google, le site de Bissen est une des options actuellement considérées dans le cadre du développement de l’activité. Le communiqué précise encore que « la décision sera prise en temps voulu. »

A l’époque, on parlait d’un éventuel investissement s’élevant à 1 milliard d’euros.

Das „Lënster Lycée“, das Clerfer „Lycée Edward Steichen“ (das zur kommenden Rentrée seine Tore öffnen wird) und das „Mondorfer Lycée“ werden neben den bereits hinlänglich bekannten Schullaufbahnen „classique“ und „général“ eine dritte, europäische Ausbildung anbieten. Gemeinsam mit der internationalen Schule in Esch und Differdingen verfügt das Land also demnächst in allen Regionen über ein solches Angebot, das unabhängig der Nationalität, also auch von Luxemburgern, genutzt werden kann.

Dass eine entsprechende Nachfrage besteht, zeigen die 456 Schüler, die im zweiten Jahr des Bestehens der neuen internationalen Schulen in Esch und Differdingen dort eingeschrieben sind.

Nachfrage im Süden

Der Mehrwert des neuen Systems offenbart sich vor allem beim Sprachenunterricht. Die Schüler können die entsprechende Sektion „Französisch, Deutsch oder Englisch“ ebenso wie zusätzliche Sprachen wählen. Auch Luxemburgisch ist Pflichtfach in den europäischen Schulen, es wird je nach Leistungsvermögen der Schüler mit entsprechenden Methoden vermittelt.

Das detaillierte Angebot der Europaschulen kann auf der Internetseite des Bildungsministeriums (men.lu) abgerufen werden. Ein Wechsel in das neue System ist übrigens während der Grundschule oder bei der Wahl der Sekundarsausbildung möglich.

On 30 November 2017, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) participated in the ninth Luxembourg Finance Innovation Summit and was honoured to receive, together with eProseedRTC, the “RegTech Innovation of the Year” Award.

This follows LIST’s activities in collaboration with the National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD), Digital Luxembourg and eProceedRTC for designing and providing a tool enabling organisations to evaluate the extent of their compliance with the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) through a comprehensive database of 350 regulatory requirements.

The six awards presented during the Luxembourg Finance Innovation Summit 2017 rewarded the best ideas and innovative projects in the Luxembourg financial sector. Eight nominees were up for the "RegTech Innovation of the Year" award. The award recognizes companies helping their customers deal with complex financial regulatory environments by offering solutions meeting compliance and reporting requirements by focusing on innovative technology.

The GDPR Compliance Support Tool featured on the list of nominees announced by the organizers. The tool was designed and prototyped by a team of experts from LIST’s department specialized in IT and regulation technologies (ITIS) before being transferred, mid-year, for industrialization to the company eProseedRTC, software publisher FinTech / RegTech and IT service provider.

Laurent Pulinckx, COO of eProseedRTC, in the presence of Olivier Willemarck and Michael Renotte (eproseed) and Michel Picard (LIST), were awarded. The award recognizes the innovative aspect of the GDPR Compliance Support Tool as a tool simplifying regulatory compliance with GDPR, which will come into force in the spring of 2018.

LIST AND CERATIZIT PLAN TO IMPROVE HIGH SPEED MACHINING TECHNOLOGY

On Tuesday, 5 December 2017, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and the Luxembourg-based company CERATIZIT signed a three-year collaboration agreement. Within the framework of the NANOPIMS research project, funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), the two partners have committed to a mutual aim: developing new physical vapour deposition (PVD) coatings that perform at high temperatures, exceeding 850 degrees Celsius, for high speed machining technology. They plan to achieve this goal by October 2020, the project's end date.

ADAPTING PRODUCTS TO THE DEMANDS OF THE CUTTING TOOLS MARKET

The machining trades are not only seeking to optimise costs, but also to reduce environmental risks to the maximum by using as little lubricant as possible.

Thus, two major trends are emerging on the cutting tools market: 'green machining' associated with the concept of reducing the amount of lubricant used (Minimum Quantity Lubrication – MQL), or near-dry machining, and an increased demand for PVD coatings that can withstand high temperatures. Consequently, during cutting activities the tools are faced with an increased surface temperature and a reduced life span.

Plus de 18 mois après le lancement de l’initiative Spaceresources.lu, l’engouement lié à l’exploitation des ressources spatiales est tel que rares sont les grands acteurs à ne pas se positionner. Au point que d’ici 2040, l’industrie devrait au moins tripler sa taille.

En mettant en place, en juillet 2017, une législation accordant aux sociétés privées la propriété – et donc l’exploitation – des ressources spatiales, le Luxembourg a fait son entrée dans la cour des grands de l’espace. Si la référence à un projet de science-fiction était monnaie courante lors de la présentation de l’initiative Spaceresources.lu, en février 2016, la donne a désormais radicalement changé. La preuve avec deux récentes études qui tablent sur une explosion du secteur spatial au niveau mondial.
