Digitale Personalbeschaffung made in Luxembourg

Ende 2014 gründete Mike Reiffers „Skeeled“, ein Tool, damit Jobsuchende und passende Unternehmen einander einfacher finden: Die Geschäftsidee war, eine Software zu entwickeln, die das Bewerben bei einer Firma digitalisieren und automatisieren soll. Durch eine künstliche Intelligenz wird so eine Verbindung hergestellt, damit tatsächlich die richtige Person den richtigen Job bekommt, und dass eine Firma, die jemanden sucht, eine erweiterte und bessere Entscheidung nehmen kann um auch wirklich den richtigen Bewerber einzustellen. Knapp vier Jahre sind seitdem vergangen. Zeit, Mike Reiffers zu fragen, wie sich Skeeled entwickelt hat.

Les robots envahissent le BTP

«Comment la technologie peut-elle réduire la pénibilité?», Ludovic Desgrée, cofondateur de Mexence, propose une solution innovante: un robot-peintre.

Mexence (prononcez «makes sense») est une start-up créée en 2015 et installée à Luxembourg, qui ambitionne de réduire la pénibilité du travail dans le secteur de la construction et du bâtiment grâce à la robotique.

À l’occasion du lancement du premier produit de la jeune pousse, pBot, le robot-peintre, Ludovic Desgrées, son cofondateur, revient sur le parcours et les projets de Mexence. 

Comment est née l’idée de Mexence?

«Comment la technologie peut-elle réduire la pénibilité? En 2015, j’ai posé cette question à un patron d’entreprise de peinture en bâtiment, dont le métier n’avait pas évolué depuis les années 80. Le secteur du bâtiment est celui où la pénibilité est la plus importante. Dès lors, le développement d’un robot-peintre prenait tout son sens. ‘Make sense’ était née. Nous entamons la commercialisation de pBot, notre robot-peintre. Il sera prochainement rejoint par pDrone, un drone-peintre capable d’accéder à de grandes hauteurs, un robot de préparation pour l’enduit, et enfin un robot de décoration pour la peinture personnalisée, tous trois en cours de développement.

La première édition du salon dédié à l’innovation et organisé par Tomorrow Street s’est clôturée vendredi soir avec l’annonce des trois start-up qui ont remporté les concours de pitch organisés pendant les deux jours de l’événement. Une jeune pousse luxembourgeoise est parmi elles.

La technologie au service des personnes. Pour sa première édition, The Arch Summit a récompensé des start-up qui proposent des solutions destinées à améliorer la vie des gens. Plus de 170 start-up du monde entier se sont succédé durant les deux jours sur les différentes scènes de pitch installées pour l’occasion dans le salon.

Le principal concours, qui avait pour thème la disruption, a été remporté par Verv. La jeune pousse basée à Londres ambitionne de réduire au maximum la facture d’électricité des particuliers, grâce à un dispositif capable d’analyser les habitudes de consommation énergétique.

La banque annonce le lancement d’un hub au Luxembourg qui prendra le rôle d’une plateforme d’internationalisation pour les start-up qu’elle accélère en France. La structure se situera dans la House of Startups.

Le Crédit agricole a décidé de faire du Luxembourg une base stratégique pour le développement à l’international des start-up qu’il a pris sous son aile. Par le biais de ses entités implantées au Luxembourg (Camca Assurance, Amundi, Caceis, CALI Europe, Crédit Agricole Indosuez), la banque a annoncé mercredi dans un communiqué la création du Hub@Luxembourg.

Le but de cette structure, qui sera inaugurée en même temps que la House of Startups (Host), le 1er juin, est de connecter les start-up hébergées dans les 24 Villages by CA, des accélérateurs du Crédit agricole situés en France, avec de grandes entreprises internationales partenaires.

«Le Hub constituera pour les start-up du réseau un point d’appui pour se développer via le Luxembourg, en Europe et à l’international, ainsi que sur les marchés prioritaires du pays (aérospatial, cyber sécurité, fintech et assurtech, maritime, green economy, smart city...)», est-il précisé dans un communiqué.

Les organisateurs parisiens du salon mondial dédié aux nouvelles technologies annoncent avoir sélectionné 1.112 start-up, dont la moitié venant hors de France. Comme pour le CES de Las Vegas, le Luxembourg partira en délégation.

C’est l’un des grands événements de l’année pour tous ceux qui s’intéressent aux nouvelles tendances technologiques. Créé en 2016, le salon VivaTech se tiendra du 24 au 26 mai prochain à Paris. Et comme l’année dernière, une centaine de challenges, ou concours de pitchs, ont été mis en place par les organisateurs et les 20 partenaires de l’événement.

Sur les 8.418 start-up qui ont répondu à l’appel – deux fois plus que l’année dernière précise le journal Les Échos, qui co-organise l’événement avec Publicis –, 1.112 ont été sélectionnées. «La plupart (…) sont encore à un stade prématuré de leur histoire (63% en amorçage ou ‘early stage’), mais près d’une sur cinq se définit comme ‘mature’», précise le quotidien.

La visite du «plus grand incubateur au monde», organisée mardi à Paris dans le cadre de la visite d’État, a été l’occasion pour les acteurs institutionnels des start-up de s’inspirer des bonnes pratiques et de proposer au propriétaire des lieux, Xavier Niel, un accord transfrontalier.

«La Station F n’est pas un incubateur, mais un campus 100% privé qui regroupe plusieurs initiatives indépendantes entre elles.» Martin Guérin, le CEO de l’accélérateur luxembourgeois Nyuko, aime être précis. Il a fait partie de la délégation luxembourgeoise qui, mardi, visitait la structure gigantesque mise en place par le milliardaire Xavier Niel à Paris, dans le cadre de la visite d’État.

Autre aspect qui a retenu l’attention de celui qui est également le CEO du Luxembourg City Incubator (LCI): des tarifs «low cost» – 195 euros mensuels par poste de travail en coworking – pour un service minimum. Il n’y a pas d’accompagnement des entrepreneurs, mais cette formule correspond bien aux besoins des start-up plus matures qui savent se débrouiller toutes seules.

Immer mehr Kandidaturen für „Fit4Start“ von Luxinnovation
Zehn Stunden lang dauerten am Montag die „Pitches“, bei denen sich 29 junge Unternehmen der Jury sich und ihr Projekt vorstellten. Sie hatten es unter 163 Kandidaten aus ganz Europa (39 Prozent stammten aus Luxemburg) in die „Pitch“-Runde geschafft, bei der am Ende zehn Auserwählte übrig blieben (s. Kasten). Für sie beginn nun im April ein 16wöchiges „Coaching“-Programm durch Experten. Außerdem bekommen sie einen Platz in einem Inkubator und 50.000 Euro für die Entwicklung von Prototypen und Marktstudien.

Sie gefielen den Jurys am besten und werden nun ab Mitte April von Experten gecoached:

B2B Pay (Deutschland, virtuelle Bankkonten), Univize (Luxemburg, Online-Plattform, die Studenten hilft, die richtige Uni zu finden), bNesis (Polen, Vereinfachung des Kreditgeschäfts), MyMedBot (Luxemburg, informiert Diabetiker und Außenstehende bei Insulinnotstand), Salonkee (Luxemburg, Künstliche Intelligenz-basierter Schönheitsberater), HOPES (Frankreich, berechnet den individuellen Energieverbrauch), Inkspired (Ecuador, „Self-Publishing“-Plattform für angehende Schriftsteller), IntegerAI (Grossbritannien, Optimierung der Büroarbeit), Metri (Finnland, Anzeigenresultatemessung auf verschiedenen Plattformen), Machinations (Rumänien, „Cloud“-basiertes Hilfsprogramm für die Entwicklung digitaler Spiele).

Le Grand-Duché joue gros dans son processus de digitalisation, qui passe avant tout par un changement de mentalité. Anne-Catherine Ries, à la tête de Digital Lëtzebuerg, incarne ce mouvement, qu’elle souhaite avant tout être le résultat d’un travail collectif. Femme de l’ombre, elle a accepté de partager sa vision durant l’exercice de l’interview pour le Paperjam magazine de mars.

Le Luxembourg est un pays qui doit miser sur la modernité. On est contraint de toujours se réinventer parce qu’on n’a plus de ressources naturelles ou d’industrie lourde sur lesquelles on peut uniquement se reposer. Mais c’est là aussi notre force, car ce virage digital, il faut le réussir. Cela a déjà été reconnu par le gouvernement précédent, mais la manière de travailler en transversal et de façon collaborative a été encore plus la marque de ce gouvernement-ci. Faire marche arrière ne sera pas une option.

L’incubateur de Belval a reçu du cabinet UBI Global, organisateur du «World Incubation Summit 2018» et auteur d’une étude sur les programmes d’incubation du monde entier, le prix «Europe Top Challenger».

À l’occasion du sommet mondial de l’incubation, qui se tient ces jeudi et vendredi à Toronto, les programmes d’incubation proposés par le Technoport ont été reconnus comme parmi les meilleurs d’Europe et récompensés par le prix «Europe Top Challenger», a indiqué Silicon Luxembourg dans son édition en ligne.

Une reconnaissance bien méritée pour le plus ancien des incubateurs luxembourgeois, qui propose non seulement deux programmes d’accompagnement à la trentaine de start-up hébergée en son sein, mais aussi un Fab Lab.

La start-up luxembourgeoise basée à Belval et membre de l’initiative Spaceresources.lu a clôturé sa première levée de fonds et annonce son intention d’intégrer la Bourse australienne (ASX) au troisième trimestre 2018.

Six mois après son arrivée au Luxembourg, l’entreprise britannique spécialisée dans la mise à disposition de renseignements de géolocalisation prend de la substance. Andy Bowyer, le CEO de Kleos Space, a annoncé mercredi lors d’une conférence de presse au Technoport, où la start-up est hébergée, une levée de fonds de 1,4 million d’euros.

Une communication complétée par l’ambition de la start-up, propriété de la firme Magna Parva, d’intégrer la Bourse australienne au mois de juillet. Il s’agira d’une première pour une entreprise basée au Luxembourg.

Quatorze jeunes pousses du pays participeront au StartUp Europe Awards 2017.

StartUp Europe Awards, l’initiative de la Commission européenne et de la fondation Finnova, a dévoilé lundi les 14 jeunes pousses qui se frotteront aux concurrents des autres pays européens lors d’une prochaine étape. Les heureuses élues ont été sélectionnées par Startup Grind Luxembourg, la plus grande communauté indépendante de start-up, avec Luxinnovation et Silicon Luxembourg.

During the CES in Las Vegas, ZF Friedrichshafen, a leading car systems supplier announced the selection of CarPay-Diem to be added to its Car eWallet solution as a service provider for fueling capabilities.

Over the last months, ZF in partnership with UBS and IBM has been in development of the Car eWallet, a mobility transaction platform, that allows a full end-to-end integration of mobility services, vehicles and infrastructure. It will enable secure and convenient payments ‘on the go’ for services like parking, charging and now fueling based on CarPay-Diems technology.

“Connecting the Car eWallet technology to the CarPay-Diem platform will allow connected and in the future autonomous cars to pay for the fuel refills while providing the greatest driver experience.”

Thanks to this partnership, when a car equipped with the Car eWallet arrives in a fuel station, the driver selects his pump number on the display of the dashboard, he is then invited to refill the tank. When the nozzle is placed back on the pump the transaction is completed. CarPay-Diem managed the fuel station processes and confirmed the driver that he can leave the fuel station. A simple and straight forward user experience which conveniently saves time for drivers. All refill transactions remain available in the Car eWallet for later use or reporting purpose for example.

The Deutsche Börse Group and its closely-tied services provider Clearstream are planning to join forces with FinTech startup figo from Germany and RegTech startup Finologee from Luxembourg. New possibilities await!

The new team will create a platform capable of supporting exciting financial industry players and up-and-coming digitization companies to better manage their combined services and abilities. The goal? Creating new revenue opportunities.

Perhaps the biggest strength in this new partnership is the ability for all actors to leverage Deutsche Börse’s market and reference data and its functional services via Application programming interfaces (APIs). The group will also focus on hosting their already developed APIs and creating new ones in the new acceleration platform, eventually opening up to external providers for a sort of marketplace where all parties can consume and exchange APIs.

These APIs will help banks, insurance companies and FinTech providers better communicate and use data, and eventually lead to a more efficient set of financial product and services alternative.

A total of 180 applications were received for this year's Pitch your Startup competition.

In all, 17 companies were selected to compete at the ICT Spring Europe conference on 15 May, where the winners of the Pitch your Startup contest will also be announced.The five Luxembourg companies selected are: Edoo Education, Mu Design, Sniffy, Hopes Luxembourg and Teliportme. They were chosen for their unique approach that combines technology and new business models.

The prizes for this year’s edition are impressive and entirely relevant to fledgeling innovative companies. According to Docler Holdings, “This year, the prizes are equivalent to a total amount of 100,000 euros; of which 50,000 euros are offered by Docler Holding.  BIL will offer €20,000 for the "BIL Innovation Award". The Best Pitch will be rewarded €10,000. The EAEC will sponsor the "Uncle Sam Prize", giving, among other benefits, a direct qualification to the interviews round for the Skydeck competition in California. Nyuko will offer a three-month acceleration programme in Luxembourg.

LCI will provide two desks in the coworking open space of the incubator. LHoFT will offer three months of Hotdesk in its office and a year membership including "Strategic Benefits". Luxinnovation will give an "Innovation Service Package". Last but not least, Silversquare will provide three desks in their open space for six months.

Junge und etablierte High-Tech-Firmen treffen sich auf dem „Arch Summit“ auf Kirchberg
Wer einmal auf der Technikmesse CeBit war, der konnte gestern und kann heute auf der „LuxExpo - The Box“ das Gefühl haben, in Hannover statt in Luxemburg zu sein. Organisiert von der Vodafone-Tochter „Tomorrow Street“ treffen sich dort seit gestern zu einem zweitägigen „Arch Summit“ hochkarätige Aussteller aus der Hochtechnologiebranche - von Cisco über HP, Nokia, Blackberry, Google - sowie annähernd 200 Startups.

Wirtschaftsminister Etienne Schneider betonte in seiner Ansprache zu Beginn der Startup-Messe die Bedeutung, die Innovation für Luxemburg und die Diversifizierung seiner Wirtschaft hat. „Tomorrow Street“ - ein Gemeinschaftsunternehmen des britischen Telekomriesen Vodafone und dem luxemburgischen Technoport, wurde 2017 in Luxemburg als Startup-Inkubator gegründet, um hier das „Ecosystem“ der innovativen Jungunternehmen anzukurbeln.

Am ersten Tag des „Arch Summit“ kündigte „Tomorrow Street“ seine neu gegründete Partnerschaft mit dem Startup Azoomee an. Es ist das vierte Unternehmen, das seit dem Start im September in das Kirchberger Innovationszentrum eingetreten ist. Azoomee mit Sitz im Vereinigten Königreich bietet eine Online-Plattform, die Unterhaltung, Bildung und Kommunikation für Kinder zwischen drei und elf Jahren miteinander verbindet. Durch die Partnerschaft mit großen Marken wie Amazon und Netgem hat sich Azoomee bereits zum Marktführer in Großbritannien entwickelt und ist in mehr als 40 internationalen Märkten verfügbar.

Warrick Cramer, CEO von Tomorrow Street, erläuterte, was der Sinn des „Arch Summit“ ist: „Wir wollen die Lücke zwischen Startups und etablierten Unternehmen schließen.“ Durch netzwerken erlaube der „Summit“ allen Teilnehmern, ihr Geschäft ausbauen, auch andere Startup-Förderer könnten die Messe nutzen, ihr Netzwerk auszudehnen.

Accenture arbeitet mit „Tomorrow Street“ beim Inkubator zusammen

Der Inkubator „Tomorrow Street“ auf Kirchberg erhält Unterstützung in den Bereichen Internet of Things, Sicherheit und Künstliche Intelligenz von Accenture. Die im September 2017 von Vodafone Procurement und dem Technoport gegründete Einrichtung „Tomorrow Street“ für reife Startups arbeitet jetzt mit dem Dienstleistungsunternehmen zusammen, das Services und Lösungen in den Bereichen Strategie, Consulting, Digital, Technologie und Operations für mehr als 40 Branchen anbietet. Startups erhalten so direkten Kontakt zu Verantwortlichen der Kommunikationsindustrie. Dadurch sollen sie deren Bedürfnisse besser verstehen.

Gene Reznik, bei Accenture für den Bereich „Technologie Ökosysteme & Risikoprojekte“ zuständig, sieht in der Einführung von Schlüsseltechnologien eine Absicherung der Zukunft. Erfahrung habe der Konzern bereits: „Wir waren Partner vieler wachsender Unternehmen über unsere hausinterne Organisation, die in vielversprechendsten Innovationen am Markt investiert hat.“

Ein Überblick über das, was sich im Land in Sachen Startups tut
Luxemburg will eine Startup-Nation sein - und befindet sich damit im Wettbewerb mit anderen. Vor allem attraktive Städte wie London, Paris, Berlin, Dublin oder Barcelona buhlen um die jungen Gründer, immer in der Hoffnung, dass die die Wirtschaft diversifizieren, junge Leute anziehen und für Arbeitsplätze sorgen, die es auch morgen noch gibt. Bislang ist besonders London sehr attraktiv. Ob das mit dem Brexit so bleibt?

Luxemburg arbeitet jedenfalls seit langem daran, mehr Unternehmen anzuziehen. So zieht Anfang April das erst vor einem Jahr gegründete „Luxembourg House of Financial Technology“ in das neue „House of Startups“, das außerdem auch noch „Nyuko“ und den „Luxembourg City Incubator“ empfängt. Hier sollen mal 150 bis 200 Startups logieren. Darüber hinaus haben die Handelskammer und die Handwerkskammer eigene Beratungsstrukturen, gibt es halb öffentliche und private Initiativen und Inkubatoren wie den Technoport und jede Menge weiterer Initiativen. Die reichen vom „Fintech Award“ von KPMG über den „Startup World Cup“ von EY bis zum „House of Biohealth“ oder dem „House of Training“. Mit „Silicon Luxembourg“ haben die Startups auch so etwas wie eine Plattform.

Das Netzwerk „InnoHub Luxemburg“ soll darüber hinaus aus dem Großherzogtum einen regelrechten Brutkasten für Startup-Unternehmen machen. Schon sehr lange ist „Luxinnovation“ aktiv, das sich mit Clustern auf bestimmte Branchen konzentriert. Programme wie „Bee Creative“ und „Fit4Entrepreneurship“, „Startup Box“, „Fit4Start“ oder „Plug&Play“ dienen zur Förderung des Unternehmergeistes und zur Unterstützung von angehenden Unternehmensgründern.

Seit Januar 2018 gibt es den „Innovation Hub Diddeleng“, der sich auf Umwelttechnologie konzentriert. Auch Differdingen ist längst auf den Geschmack gekommen: dort steht der Inkubator „1535°“. Für Sozialunternehmen ist „6zero1“ in Differdingen gedacht. Hinzu kommen Initiativen wie der „InCub“ von Paul Wurth, letzterer zielt auf die Industrie ab. Seit März dieses Jahres hat die Universität ihren eigenen Inkubator für gründungswillige Studenten, den „Luxembourg Incubator“. Vodafone hat 2016 gemeinsam mit dem Technoport den Inkubator „Tomorrow Street“ gegründet.

Applications open until 1 May

Applications for the Awards opened on 1 March and will close on 1 May. Fifteen startups will then be selected to go through to Competition Day on 20 June, where they will be whittled down to seven finalists who will compete to be Fintech Startup of the Year. Prizes will also go to the first and second runner ups.

The winners will be announced during the awards ceremony and after-party on the KPMG Plage beach in Luxembourg on 20 June in the presence of the Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Luxembourg Finance Minister Pierre Gramegna.

€50,000 in prize money, sponsored by Digital Luxembourg

The startups will be competing for prizes designed to help them grow and develop their company in Luxembourg. Prizes include €50,000; four months of hosting at the Technoport (coworking space in Luxembourg); 10 free consulting hours from KPMG; and a free LHoFT membership including six months of hosting at the LHoFT Fintech hub.

Le nom ne sera dévoilé que mardi, mais on connaît déjà les grands principes de ce nouvel espace dédié à l’incubation des futures pépites luxembourgeoises. En lançant son incubateur, l’Université du Luxembourg cherche à renforcer son «entrepreneurship programme», lancé l’été dernier.

C’est un nouveau-né dans l’écosystème de plus en plus fourni dédié aux start-up. L’incubateur de l’Uni sera officiellement dévoilé mardi prochain, lors d’une réception en petit comité à laquelle participera le Premier ministre, Xavier Bettel.

Pour l’Université, il ne s’agit pas de marcher sur les plates-bandes des autres incubateurs luxembourgeois, comme le Technoport voisin, mais de proposer une offre complémentaire dans le cadre de son «entrepreneurship programme», qui vise à sensibiliser ses étudiants à l’entrepreneuriat. Ainsi, ce ne sont pas des start-up en tant que telles qui seront incubées, mais des idées à l’état embryonnaire.

Inkubator für Start-ups bereit für das neue „House of Start-ups“
Der Inkubator für Start-ups, Nyuko aus Hollerich, zieht um in das neue „House of Start-ups“. Die unabhängige, nicht-gewinnorientierte Initiative zur Unterstützung von Start-ups und Unternehmen will Ende März oder Anfang April dort seine Räume beziehen. Das war geplant. Der Eigentümer Roland Kuhn, „Administrateur Délégué“ des ältesten Baugeschäfts in Luxemburg, Kuhn Construction S.A., wird die Räume in der Hollericher Straße anderweitig nutzen. Durch Neubauten verändert sich derzeit das Gesicht der Straße, dabei stehen noch weitere durch Paul Wurth und Heintz van Landewyck an.

„Nyuko“ steht für „new / you / co-“ und verweist auf den Charakter des Zusammenarbeitens verschiedener Experten Berater, Mentoren und Coaches. Vorgänger waren Initiativen der Handelskammer wie „1,2,3 GO“ und „1,2,3 GO Social“ sowie die „Impactory“, ein „Coworking Space“, die Hedda Pahlson-Moller ins Leben gerufen hatte.

SWC Luxembourg Regional Event

This regional semifinal for the Startup World Cup will be held in Luxembourg City and aims to foster local innovation by bringing together a distinguished startup ecosystem.

The winner of the pitching competition will represent Luxembourg and EU Region at the Grand Finale and will compete alongside 15 other startups from all over the world for a chance to win a US $1,000,000 prize in investment.
