Zwischen den vergangenen beiden Volkszählungen von 2011 und 2021 ist in Luxemburg der Anteil ausländischer Einwohner schneller gewachsen als der Bevölkerungsteil mit luxemburgischer Staatsangehörigkeit. Das geht aus den am Montag veröffentlichten Zahlen des Statistikamts Statec hervor, das die Ergebnisse der zehnjährlichen Zählungen nach und nach veröffentlicht.

The national statistics institute STATEC has presented the first results of Luxembourg's 37th population census, conducted between 8 November and 5 December 2021.

Compared to the last census in 2011 (512,353 residents), Luxembourg witnessed a population increase of 25.7% (i.e. 131,588 people), reaching 643,941 residents. This was fifteen times higher than that of the European Union (EU-27), which experienced growth of 1.7% during the same period.

Au 1er janvier 2022, 645.397 personnes vivaient sur le territoire luxembourgeois. En un an, la population a donc augmenté de 1,7%. Un accroissement majoritairement dû à l’immigration nette.

Von Australien über Costa Rica, Südafrika und Japan bis hin zu Saudi-Arabien: 189 Länder sind für Personen mit luxemburgischem Pass ohne Visum zugänglich. Dies geht aus dem Henley Passport Index 2022 hervor, der am Mittwoch veröffentlicht worden ist. Damit liegt dieser Pass weltweit auf Platz drei, gleichauf mit Finnland, Italien und Spanien.

Japan und Singapur teilen sich den Titel des «mächtigsten Reisepasses»: Die Dokumente der beiden Länder öffnen die Türen zu 192 Länder. Auf dem zweiten Platz liegen Deutschland und Südkorea (190). Der französische und der belgische Pass ermöglichen den visafreien Zugang zu 188 bzw. 186 Ländern (4. und 6. Platz).

The European Commission announced on Friday that Luxembourg City has won the 2022 Access City Award for becoming more accessible to persons with disabilities.

A jury of accessibility experts recognised the city for its wide range of innovative solutions and improvements to enhance accessibility for persons with disabilities.

According to the jury, the city has made accessibility a priority. It follows a "Design for All" approach to make access easier for everyone, including persons with disabilities. Low-floor buses equipped with ramps are present across the city as well as visual and audio announcements on buses and at bus stops. The city regularly consults its residents with disabilities, to ensure its action has the desired effect. Moreover, Luxembourg City makes information about political decisions accessible for everyone by making key council meetings available in sign language, on top of spoken language and accessible transcription.

A cider from Luxembourg has been named the best in the world at the bi-annual International Brewing & Cider Awards, widely known as the brewing industry's Oscars.  

Ramborn Cider from Luxembourg won The International Innovative Cider Award 2021 for its Ramborn Ice Perry. 

Brewers and cider-makers from 24 countries received accolades at the International Brewing & Cider Awards 2021.

126 medals and twelve trophies were awarded to beers and ciders from all over the world, including entrants from Australia, China, Japan, Luxembourg, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and the United Kingdom.

According to figures published by Eurostat, Luxembourg recycled 71.5% of packaging waste generated in 2019.

The recycling rates of all packaging waste in the European Union (EU) was estimated at 64.8% in 2019. Packaging waste includes glass, paper, cardboard, metals, plastics, wood and other forms of recycling, such as organic recycling.

Examining the entire spectrum of software development, from its very early stage of inception to maintenance, software engineering (SE) is part of an industry in constant movement, and a discipline distinguished for its impact in the research world. In order to gain a deeper understanding of its evolution in the latter, a bibliometric study of software engineering themes, scholars and institutions has been published in the October 2021 edition of the Journal of Systems and Software. 

With the study spanning over the years 2013 to 2020, it shines a light on the available literature and its topics, scholars as well as institutions, from the researchers’ angle. As a member of the narrow circle of the most active institutions in software engineering research, the University of Luxembourg is ranked tenth in the top 50 universities worldwide, highlighting its solid reputation built over time, and gaining the respect of its peers.

Le réseau allemand de la restauration scolaire (DNSV) a décerné pour la première fois en 2021 une "assiette d'or internationale" dans le cadre du 12e congrès allemand de la restauration scolaire.

Ce prix récompense le travail fructueux et de longue date de l'opérateur de cantines scolaires luxembourgeois Restopolis, qui, avec son nouveau concept "Food4Future", sous le slogan "Freed um gudden Iessen", est désormais le moteur du changement vers plus de durabilité dans la restauration collective sur le marché hors foyer du Luxembourg.

Luxembourg and France today signed a new framework agreement aimed at strengthening and deepening cooperation between the two countries' space agencies and their space sector.

In 2009, the two countries signed a first framework agreement, which came to an end in 2015. This renewed collaboration reaffirms the will of France and Luxembourg to collaborate and makes a focus on the development of concrete bilateral projects. Dr. Marc Serres, CEO of the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA), signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Grand Duchy, whilst Dr Philippe Baptiste, Chairman and CEO of the National Centre for Space Studies (Centre national d'études spatiales - CNES), signed for France.

Au cours du deuxième trimestre 2021, le prix moyen du mètre carré des appartements existants au Luxembourg a augmenté de 6,7% par rapport au trimestre précédent et surtout de 19,1% par rapport au deuxième trimestre 2020.

Les résultats du dernier recensement de la population montrent que le Luxembourg dispose d’un dynamisme démographique exceptionnel au sein de l’Union européenne, avec une croissance de 25,7% de sa population en dix ans pour atteindre 643.941 personnes en novembre 2021.

The grand duchy spends an average of €689 per capita on research and development, according to Eurostat, placing it at the top of the EU chart.

A Eurostat study published on 4 August revealed that in 2021 Luxembourg spent more than all the other EU member states. Only Norway (€707.2) and Switzerland (€706.5), which don’t belong to the European Union, invested more per resident. Denmark, with €530 per capita and Germany with €470.9 complete the podium.

This year’s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) reveals that corruption levels are at a worldwide standstill.

The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories around the world by their perceived levels of public sector corruption. The results are given on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).

L’entreprise canadienne NorthStar, annoncée au Luxembourg il y a deux ans exactement, a confirmé ce vendredi y établir son siège européen et annonce une levée de 40 millions d’euros, dont 10 millions du Luxembourg Future Fund.

L’ex-ministre de l’Économie, Étienne Schneider (LSAP), l’avait annoncé; l’actuel ministre de l’Économie, Franz Fayot (LSAP), l’a finalisé: la canadienne NorthStar a confirmé, ce vendredi matin, au cours d’une conférence de presse, qu’elle allait installer son quartier général européen au Luxembourg.

On Thursday 25 November 2021, experts from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) presented the results of a study on integration policies to Luxembourg's Minister of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region, Corinne Cahen, amongst others.

The study was a part of review of the integration law of 16 December 2008 and aimed to rethink and redesign the policy of living together at the national level.

Die Steuererklärung für Privatpersonen soll ab dem 7. Februar 2022 komplett digital verfügbar sein. Ein Assisstent von „MyGuichet.lu“ soll bei Fragen helfen. 


Die Digitalisierung schreitet weiter voran – und macht auch vor der Steuerbehörde nicht halt. Ab dem 7. Februar soll die Steuererklärung für Privatpersonen „von Anfang bis zum Ende“ des Bearbeitungsweges digital sein. Das haben Finanzminister Pierre Gramegna und Digitalisierungsminister Marc Hansen am Montag angekündigt.

Bisher konnte die Steuererklärung für Privatpersonen zwar digital eingereicht werden, sie musste aber immer noch in einem PDF-Dokument ausgefüllt werden. Nun soll es vorbei sein mit den seitenlangen Teilen der Steuererklärung, die einen nicht betreffen. Das neue System über MyGuichet.lu soll vieles vereinfachen und ist für Anwohner und Grenzgänger verfügbar.

Le Luxembourg enregistre un bon score concernant la fourniture de services publics numériques aux entreprises selon le Desi 2021. Moins pour les particuliers. Le pays se démarque aussi par son niveau de connectivité. Mais pas sur la digitalisation des PME.

Cette année encore, difficile de comparer la position du Luxembourg au Digital Economy and Society Index (Desi) . La Commission européenne vient de publier son classement pour l’année 2021. Où le Luxembourg arrive à la 8e position. Cet index évalue l’économie et la société numériques des 27 pays membres de l’Union européenne (UE).

Selon le «Global Talent Competitiveness Index 2021», l’index mondial sur la compétitivité et les talents, le Luxembourg conserve une forte capacité d’attraction. Tous critères confondus, le pays se classe à la huitième position.

Alors que les syndicats se sont récemment inquiétés de l’attractivité du pays , le dernier «Global Talent Competitiveness Index» montre que le Luxembourg fait partie des 10 pays les plus attractifs de la planète, notamment pour attirer les talents.
