Indigenous knowledge is the solution to Canada's health inequities

To improve Indigenous health in Canada we need more Indigenous health professionals and more culturally competent health-care providers. We also need to listen properly to Indigenous stories.
Valentina Orozco Jimenez's curator insight, February 8, 2019 8:01 PM
Canada is worried about the physical and mental health of its population. For this reason, the government is calling for the indigenous communities in order to help to reduce this problem. How? It is well known that such communities have a huge knowledge about different ways of curing diseases naturally through medicinal plants; so, the government is trying to put in service indigenous health professionals who really take care of such problems. Additionally, natives peoples are also recognized for being culturally and socially wise. Taking this mind, the article says that they could provide more help in terms of psychological issues since, through their wisdom, indigenous communities can support people with problems by advising others with problems.
