Challenge: Can we improve the performance of biotechnological processes, food preservation and crop protection actions and the control of drug resistance and microbial pathogenicity by uncovering the complexity of cellular responses to new situations (e.g. stress)?

Strategic goal: Understand the complexity of cellular responses to environmental alterations and insults in order to improve biotechnological processes and applications and the efficacy of drugs and pesticides.

iBB integrates two groups with a strong tradition in research in Bioengineering and Biosciences, the BioEngineering Research Group (BERG) and the Biological Sciences Research Group (BSRG). The management structure of iBB includes the Director, an Executive Board, a Scientific Coordination Committee, a Scientific Council and an International Advisory Committee. The operation and management of iBB is regulated by norms proposed by their members and approved within the competent university bodies.

iBB Launches Ignition Grants to Foster Internal and International Collaboration | iBB | Scoop.it

iBB has launched a call for internal, ignition grants, with the aim of promoting  pilot research projects.  The projects should be aligned with at least one of the four thematic research lines identified in the 2015-2020 strategic plan of iBB: Stem Cell Bioengineering, Advanced Bioprocessing, Post-Genomic Technologies and Enviornmental Challenges. These projects should be designed to foster i) internal colaboration between BERG and BSRG and ii) the international and industrial partnerships. The proposals will be evaluated by members of the International Scientific Advisory Committee of iBB. The call closes on May 31st. Contact iBB secretariat to learn more (bb@ibb.pt).
