How to use less energy in a city where the climat is dry and warm and require to have the air conditioning all the year ? This is what Vincent Caillebaut, an belgian architect working in Paris, explains in this article with his project "The Gate Residence" in Cairo, in Egypt. This project is a multifonctional complex with appartments, offices, hotels and a shopping centre. All the complex will be cover by canopy with photovoltaic cells, solar thermal tubes and vertical gardens. The building is designed to decrease its print carbon and to recycle part of its own waste such as "gray water" for example. The project shows a strong ambition using a high level of renewable energies and technologies. The main purpose of this urban project consists to raise awareness among green and sustainable architecture to fight against climate warming and respecting the environment for the future generations. |
