How to Kill Dead Space and Achieve More in #Business

How to Kill Dead Space and Achieve More in #Business | Business Improvement and Social media | Scoop.it

When you reduce Dead Space, you reduce the time it takes to accomplish your goals.

Via Daniel Watson
rodrick rajive lal's curator insight, April 28, 2016 11:38 PM
Dead space is a silent but deadly killer of initiative and success in business and life. Umberto Eco the expert on semiotics referred to Dead Space when he used the word Interstices. The idea is to fill up the empty spaces in our lives by doing something constructive. Take for example the time it takes for your friend to ascend to your flat using the elevator while you wait for him at the top. That is an interstice that you can fill up by writing something. If we were to remove the empty space from the whole universe, then theortically at least, the whole universe can be compressed to the size of an orange!

There's some good ideas here. However in my view the simplest one is missing. Ask your employees what's worth celebrating about their roles and what could be better. Then help them to create a 90 day execution plan to keep doing what's worth celebrating and changing what could be better to something worth celebrating.

Susan Bender Phelps's curator insight, October 9, 2015 1:06 PM

Our habits are so easy to do because they are habits and we don't have to think about them to do them and that's also why bad habits or unproductive habits are so hard to break. The good news is, you don't have to break them. Just adopt a new practice and repeat until it becomes a habit. Old habits literally fall away with disuse. This article gives us very concrete and practical ways to start.

Ian Berry's curator insight, October 9, 2015 6:24 PM

All implementable by anyone anywhere. Particularly like the fixing little things every day (I'd add it doesn't have to be fixing it can simply be improving) I call this every day innovation. I also like the it's not a fixing people it's about fixing process

Here's a comprehensive but palatable guide to writing a business plan. You will find links to examples and additional information. It's worth a read if you want to start a business. However, I wouldn't recommend developing a business plan in a vacuum, if you've never tried to do one before. Since this is one of the most important foundational steps you can take, it's worth investing the time in a coach that can challenge your thinking.

Eric Frykman's curator insight, September 23, 2014 4:36 PM

This article has a four point list:

1) Credibility

2) Product

3) Service

4) Price

This was not written by anyone in sales, as #4 should be off the table completely. Product is "do you have more bells" and Service is "can you be better than your competition."

None of this is useful to a small company competing against a giant.

What you really need is to build

5) VALUE

I.e. Why are you here - what pain are you solving? How are YOU my savior? How do you fix all my problems and help me get to sleep at night?

That's how you compete and become a giant-killer. Focus your story around Value, and you'll win every time.
