A Random Walk with Pi

A Random Walk with Pi | omnia mea mecum fero | Scoop.it

Of course, the number of digits in π is infinite, but over the years, as computers have become more powerful, we know many more of them than ever before. But it’s one thing to say that I can download trillions of digits of π and another to make some sort of sense out of all of these digits. Into this steps a team of researchers from Australia, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and Simon Fraser University with some elegant visualizations of π. In a recent paper, they used a classic method of visualizing large strings of numbers: the random walk.

How To Find Royalty Free Images That Haven’t Been Overused

How To Find Royalty Free Images That Haven’t Been Overused | omnia mea mecum fero | Scoop.it

I don't know you, but for me, images are very important. A text without an image, is like a sky without stars. For this reason, I like this post with several ressources, maybe you too! [note Martin Gysler]

“Hey, I’ve seen that image before. Actually, I’ve seen it many times before.”

Images allow you to express what words can’t.

They draw the viewer in and elicit an emotional impact, providing your users with information while confirming that what your selling or promoting is real.

It’s important to consider your ideals and the image’s ability to illustrate a concept perfectly. But consider originality as well. You wouldn’t want to fall into the trap of using cliche imagery because it’s easy and convenient.

Patterns of Visual Math - 3 Dimensional Fractals & Mandelbulb

Patterns of Visual Math - 3 Dimensional Fractals & Mandelbulb | omnia mea mecum fero | Scoop.it

Three Dimensional Fractal Mappings
Years ago, many fractal enthusiasts viewed these intricate and majestic patterns and thought "Wouldn't this be incredible in 3-D?". Dozens of methods have been developed to view fractals in an arbitrary number of dimensions. Quaternions are 3D shadows of 4D Julia Sets, which, if sliced in a plane, reveal the corresponding 2 dimensional Julia Set.
