Transmedia Heresy! Don’t Start with the Story…..

Transmedia Heresy! Don’t Start with the Story….. | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it
The Digital Rocking Chair's insight:

Siobhan O'Flynn looks at why successful transmedia projects don't have to start with the story ... they can start with the audience.

Siobhan O'Flynn:  "Although I can think of numerous examples where ‘story first’ was the design principle to follow, particularly for documentary and/or more art house projects (think ARTE, NFB), in this instance [Ruby Skye P.I.] in a more mainstream, commercial space Jill’s audience first engagement strategy is now a stand-out winner by all metrics of success."

‘Transmedia Engagement: Participatory Culture to Activism’

‘Transmedia Engagement: Participatory Culture to Activism’ | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it

Siobhan O'Flynn: "I wrote an earlier blog post, ‘Why The Hunger Games is Not Harry Potter, and Why You Should Care,’ in response to finishing the novels, which were far more disturbing than I had expected. Further mulling on Geoffrey Long’s How to Ride a Lion: A Call for a Higher Transmedia Criticism and Jeff Gomez & Fabian Niciezo’s “6 Reasons Why ‘the Avengers’ is Crushing it at the Box Office” resulted in this case study on ‘Transmedia Engagement: Participatory Culture to Activism.’ Your thoughts are welcome!"

Simple, Elegant Genius: The BBC's Transmedia Sherlock - Part 1

Simple, Elegant Genius: The BBC's Transmedia Sherlock - Part 1 | Transmedia: Storytelling for the Digital Age | Scoop.it
What I really like about the BBC’s approach to creating transmedia content for Sherlock was that the show’s producers kept everything super simple and everything they created was worked back into the show as important story points.

This is an excellent case study in the use of transmedia storytelling techniques.  The article contains lots of specific examples and I'm already looking forward to Part 2.
