These are my go-to recommendations for creating multimedia timelines. This list has been updated for the second time this year because some of my old "go-to" tools relied on Flash and are no longer available and some tools were updated. One new has been added to the list as well.

ClassTools.net has many great online game templates for history teachers to use. Play Your Dates Right is one of the templates that I like to use to create a game that is focused on helping students recall the sequence of historical events. myHistro is a free multimedia timeline creation tool. When you create a timeline on myHistro each event that you add can be simultaneously displayed on a map on the same screen. Every event that you add to your myHistro timelines can include pictures and videos. On myHistro you can build a personal timeline or build a timeline about a theme or event in history. myHistro timelines can be created online or you can use the free iOS app to create events on your timeline. Timelines can be incorporated almost in any subject area and can be used to teach a wide variety of topics from historical events to bibliographical information. Web technologies have immensely facilitated the process of creating a timeline and anyone can quickly design an interactive timeline in few steps. Capzles is an excellent web tool for creating visually interactive rich-media timelines using a number of materials including: videos, photos, text, audio, music and many more. You can use this tool with students in class to create timelines on various educational topics (e,g history and science projects). Capzles can be a great way for students to create digital portfolios and display their work. It can also be used for digital storytelling where students can experiment with different multimedia storylines. There are in fact endless possibilities to use Capzles in your instruction.

After yesterday’s post we received a couple of requests from our followers on social media suggesting the inclusion of Hstry and MyHistro to the list. These are two timeline creation tools we have already covered in separate posts in the past. As teachers, you can use these web applications with students to create educational timelines showcasing the development of a given phenomenon or to chronicle the major historical events over a stretch of time or provide a biographical narration of a historical figure…etc. Timelines can embed different multimedia materials including: text, images, video, maps and many more.

HSTRY is a multimedia timeline creation tool that will work on your laptop, Chromebook, iPad, or tablet.

Crear un TIMELINE, consiste en realizar una linea del tiempo donde se cuenta diferentes acontecimientos en una zona temporal. Vamos a utilizar TIMETOAST, como aplicación para realizar tu primer TIMELINE. No es la única aplicación que existe, puedes investigar por al red y buscar otras aplicaciones on-line, para crear la linea del tiempo acorde a tus necesidades.

Creating timelines has been a go-to activity for history teachers since the beginning of history. When I made timelines as a student and in my first year or two of teaching, timelines were made on paper. Today, there are better ways to have students create timelines. In fact, in Teaching History With Technology I feature a couple of my favorite timeline tools for use in high school, middle school, and elementary school classrooms. A picture is considered to be worth a thousand words and perhaps one of the most essential aspect of making an attractive timeline is to use the right images. While PowerPoint timelines can be made using SmartArt and mere text, images, icons and symbols always make timelines easier to understand. This is why many premium timeline templates for PowerPoint use a lot of visual aid to provide presenters with sample clipart & icons.

Hace tiempo que tenía en mi iPad esta sencilla aplicación pero no la había utilizado, por falta de tiempo más que por falta de interés, todo sea dicho de paso. El caso es que estoy preparando una actividad para clase y como vamos a necesitar organizar el contenido de forma cronológica, la he estado probando. Es muy simple, no se pueden hacer timelines muy vistosos pero ofrece algunas ventajas interesantes que os cuento a continuación, En primer lugar, la aplicación es gratuita, cuenta con Apps para IOS y Android pero, además, se puede utilizar en el navegador ¡¡sin realizar registro!!
