In the last few weeks we featured two excellent tools for history teachers: Chronas and Histography. Chronas allows you to explore the world history through the use of a colourful map together with a time slider beneath it. You can use the time slider to select a given period in time and view the events that marked its history. Histography is an interactive timeline that spans the history of humankind from the Big Bang to 2015. All historical content embedded in this timeline has been drawn from wikipedia and is self-updated on a daily basis. Historical events are represented by dots and placed on a chronological order.

Pero igualmente las líneas del tiempo pueden ser de gran ayuda para organizar gráficamente la secuencia cronológica de los temas que se van a ver durante un curso, junto con las actividades que se van a realizar.

Las líneas del tiempo, también conocidas como ejes cronológicos o timelines en inglés, se han utilizado desde hace mucho tiempo en el aula, pero la posibilidad de incorporar elementos multimedia hizo que recobraran protagonismo de la mano de diversas herramientas online. Desgraciadamente una de las más populares ha dejado de existir recientemente, se trata de Dipity.com, perdiéndose muchísimos trabajos realizados hasta la fecha por docentes y alumnos. Otra muy popular en español es TimeRime, que ya nos anuncia en su portada que dejará de funcionar el próximo mes de agosto.

Histography is an impressive interactive timeline spanning today through the beginning of recorded history. The timeline is divided into fifteen categories including war, politics, discoveries, inventions, and art. To explore the timeline select one of the categories listed on the Histography website then adjust the timeline slider to see events from the range of dates that you've selected. After choosing a category and date range you can click on dots in the timeline to see pop-up boxes containing event titles, representative pictures, and a link to a Wikipedia page about the event.
