Periscope isn’t closing down, even though you can now broadcast directly from Twitter - VentureBeat

Periscope isn’t closing down, even though you can now broadcast directly from Twitter - VentureBeat | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Twitter ramped up its live video credentials today with the news that you will now be able to broadcast live video directly from within Twitter. Great news for sure, but where does that leave Periscope, the live video startup it acquired way back in 2015?

While you could already watch Periscope broadcasts from within Twitter, until now, you’ve had to broadcast from Periscope itself. Moving forward, whenever you compose a tweet, you will be presented with a Live button that transports you to a pre-broadcast screen through which you can frame your shot before hitting Go Live. That sounds as though it’s game over for Periscope, but that ain’t so — Periscope is being maintained as a separate, standalone product, according to the Verge. Why? Because not all Periscope users are active on Twitter.
Marteq's insight:

It's not yet universal across all Twitter accounts, so give it a few days.

What’s the Deal with Live Streaming? A B2B Marketer’s Guide - Pardot

What’s the Deal with Live Streaming? A B2B Marketer’s Guide - Pardot | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Here are a few ways you could use live streaming to help tell your brand’s story:

  • Put your teaching hat on. Live expert Q&As, webinars, and how-to videos perform well, because people want to learn something. Leverage the subject matter experts you have internally, or interview industry pros and customers.
  • Tell the story of your company. Highlight your employees, and what they are passionate about (especially if it’s customer success!). Give customers a behind the scenes look at your company’s culture.
  • Take your audience with you on an adventure. Are you headed to an awesome conference or event? Live stream some highlights, and let people follow along in the virtual world.
  • Use live streaming to show off new products and get instant feedback, which can be tremendously useful. Think connected focus groups.

Google is building YouTube Connect, a livestreaming app to take on Periscope - VentureBeat

Google is building YouTube Connect, a livestreaming app to take on Periscope - VentureBeat | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it
Google has quietly been building a new livestreaming app called YouTube Connect, VentureBeat has learned. This service highlights the company’s efforts to double down on live video while also placing it in a position to compete directly against Twitter’s Periscope and Facebook Live. YouTube Connect will be available on both iOS and Android devices.

Videos will be viewable live within the app, as well as on the YouTube site in their respective channels. It will also be possible to store previous broadcasts in the app, quite possibly as something you can opt into after you’ve completed the live stream. This will make it possible for you and your friends to watch the replays. The app does not yet have the integrations with Facebook or Twitter that would make it easy for users to share live streams on other social networks.

Now LIVE: Periscope on Twitter for iOS — Periscope

Now LIVE: Periscope on Twitter for iOS - Medium
Today, we’re bringing this vision directly into Twitter by making it possible to watch broadcasts without leaving the Twitter app.

Since launch, there have been over 100 million broadcasts created on Periscope. Whenever a broadcast is shared on Twitter, you tap the link to open the Periscope app. Today, we’re replacing those links with the broadcast itself, autoplaying right within the Tweet. And when you tap the video, it goes full-screen and shows Periscope comments and hearts from other viewers. You don’t need the Periscope app or even a Periscope account.

We’re rolling out this feature on Twitter for iOS over the next few days. To everyone using Twitter for Android or on web: we haven’t forgotten about you! We plan to roll these features out on all platforms as soon as they’re ready."

The Marketer’s Guide to Periscope - Kissmetrics | The MarTech Digest | Scoop.it

Periscope also has a few benefits over its rival:

  • Replays: unlike Meerkat where the stream disappears into the ether and isn’t stored anywhere, users of Periscope have 24 hours after the event to access the stream and rewatch.
  • Data: after you’ve finished filming a Periscope, you can see lots of information about how well it did in the form of viewers, time watched, duration and retention.
  • Instant streaming: Meerkat has a 30 second delay, Periscope has no delay, therefore a user has more chance of an instant reply if making a comment on Periscope.
  • The look: Periscope has a much cleaner layout than Meerkat, with far less clutter. It certainly looks the more professional app.
Marteq's insight:

To me, Periscope is the clear choice, and it's an easy way to get creative.
