6 Simple Ways to Accelerate your Learning with Mind Mapping | :: The 4th Era :: | Scoop.it

Learning to learn remains a powerful and necessary skill in every field of activity.  In addition to this skill, imagine that your learning can be accelerated, your mind challenged and your efficiency improved.

Create presentations:

One of the most important roles of presentations is for you to practice your creativity and understanding on a specific topic or subject.  When you are able to present your own perspective on a specific matter, your learning experience becomes extremely powerful.  You become the owner of that information, gaining ownership over the delivered content.

Metacognition: Learning about Learning

Metacognition: Learning about Learning | :: The 4th Era :: | Scoop.it

Paul Andersen is a science teacher and a technology specialist in Montana, and has this great video on Metacognition. In this video he provides ten tips on increasing comprehension.

He also has an amazing number of other resources available on his website http://www.bozemanscience.com/ including science videos, other educational videos, and a journal. He recently presented a TEDx talk about how to use game design to improve student learning. Great resources and food for thought.

Gamification: Motivation and Engagement

Gamification: Motivation and Engagement | :: The 4th Era :: | Scoop.it

What’s Game Good For?

Before we can talk about applying game mechanics to anything, we need to understand what a game actually us. The Oxford English Dictionary defines a game as “a form or spell of play or sport, esp. a competitive one played according to rules and decided by skill, strength or luck.”

That’s pretty hard to digest as a something you can say to a decision maker! However, if we break it down further we can start to get at some core ideas that should help. Play and sport are all activities or tasks. Played is not a strong word in the corporate world. It conjures images of nerds playing quake after hours on the corporate network. So instead, how about we use completed.

Rules Can Be Starting Points

Next, rules. We all have rules, but it is not something you hear people talking about in businesses. Instead, we could say parameters or guidelines. All projects have parameters or guidelines...

Six [totally awesome] Web Presentation Tools for Teachers at a Glance

Six [totally awesome] Web Presentation Tools for Teachers at a Glance | :: The 4th Era :: | Scoop.it

Below, you will find a link to a table I’ve made that puts information about these sources into an “at a glance” format. You’ll be able to easily reference what the tool is, what it does, and how it could be used in the classroom. You will also get access to links for the actual websites so that you can sign up and start creating! Before you do that, though, I’ve also got links to some examples on the final page for your perusal. (Keep in mind that these are just samples, not Pulitzer or Golden Apple material.) It is my hope that my own hours of time narrowing the field of free web tools will help others in their teaching, and help some new surfers to get up on that wave. Try to learn and implement one new thing this year… even that is a huge accomplishment. Come on in, the water’s fine! At the live session, you even get me to come around, assist you, and personally answer your questions about how these contraptions work…

May I also add Present.Me that allows you to attach a video of yourself presenting to your powerpoint presentation. I use it to send to my class when I cannot be there for their lessons. Genuis.

I agree Charlotte! Present.me is awesome, I use it too. And Prezi, and many more tools.... But that was the author's choice. I like the annotations and tips very much!
