The silent tragedy affecting today’s children

The silent tragedy affecting today’s children | The 21st Century | Scoop.it
“Here is my new blog post. I encourage every parent who cares about the
future of his/her children to read it. I know that many would choose
not to hear what I say in the article, but your children need you to
hear this message. Even if you disagree with my perspective, please,
Kel Bray's curator insight, May 28, 2017 6:22 AM
I couldn't agree more with this post. I feel that there has to be more to the behaviours and excuses that are more evident now-a-days. Respect and responsibility is being pushed aside for rights and no responsibility. There is no such thing as a pecking order within the family unit any more and that includes the parents. Majority of the time it is the younger child who seems to wear the pants in the family and gets away with so much more, all while calling the shots. I think as parents become busier, the easy option is to say yes or opt to quieten the child down with some sort of gadget to play with. These failures are starting with the parents but it is the teachers at schools who are left to pick up the pieces to try enforce some kind of rules and routine. Often the schools are then not supported by the parents in these matters. There is also a lack of consequences for bad choices. Children need to be held responsible for their actions or otherwise they miss the life lesson. Children think they are equal with the parents but this is not the case. Parents have a job to do when raising children and that is to be a good role model and guide their children through life. By letting the child do what they want , when they want and how they want does not do the child any favours.
In fact, it under prepares the child for adulthood and blending into society. Parents - harden up and be the grown up!
Lucas Bongarra's curator insight, May 31, 2017 1:33 PM

The most important part of the day is when you connect with your children. Make the time relevant and focus on what is meaningful to them and their future. This is a great article about kids and parents today.

What Is The Right Age To Introduce Your Kids To Mobile Technology?

What Is The Right Age To Introduce Your Kids To Mobile Technology? | The 21st Century | Scoop.it
My boys love to play with their iPad. My oldest who is 4 ½ spends an average of about 45 minutes each day playing a variety of games. Some like Endless Alphabet are educational while others like Fruit Ninja, are not so much.
Dr. Susan Bainbridge's insight:

This reminds me of a similar discussion in the 70s and 80s, how much television should young children watch per day? Young humans need to bond with their Mother, then bond with the Earth, then bond with others. The argument holds true today.

There are few sectors that technology is not rapidly changing, and education is no exception. There is probably no place that emerging technology is having a greater impact in education than in higher education in particular. One of the biggest challenges of higher education has always been the expense. The expense of a college education […]

Camila Ossa Castaño's curator insight, December 4, 2016 12:25 PM
This article shows us how technology can help us as teachers in our classes, this is a medium that is easy to use and accessible to people. Teachers who are afraid or do not want to use these means to carry out their classes may seek to help a classmate to guide them and show them how this can help them in view of the fact that today technology is in our day to day. It may be that in the beginning it is not easy to operate these devices, but with these 5 ways that the article shows us will be a little easier to learn how to handle them.
Sebastián Vásquez's curator insight, December 4, 2016 5:54 PM
Part of the reflection about the way technology can make part of our academic and learning lives should not stay only in how to implement it but also on how to spread the word and the ideas which come with it. Although technology is nowadays given much more importance  than before, there are still many teachers who refuse to get involved by this amazing field. That is why there is also the need to raise awareness not only in students to use technology in different and diverse ways but also to teachers. If we make it meaningful for teachers to appreciate technology as a tool rich in possibilities and not as an impossible language to speak, it would also be a new possibility for creating discussion and enhance learning practices.
