This doesn't surprise me one bit, online gaming I feel makes a child more engaged and focused on there task at hand. Most people don't realize the amount of motor skills that are involved. Also keeps them somewhat socialized

We are wired to connect what we are doing and where we are to other things we know. It is a survival thing - this means that real world learning has an easier time embedding in our brain and is connected to more parts of our brain - so will stay longer. Learning is easier when it comes "stamped' in time and space and context and relevance.
