Minority Report? The 'Internet of Business Things' video interview via WSJ

Minority Report? The 'Internet of Business Things' video interview via WSJ | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

As more things get connected to each other, how can businesses capitalize on the growing 'Internet of Things?' PricewaterhouseCoopers chief technologist Chris Curran joins the News Hub with Sara Murray.

Marty Note
Turns out a forgettable movie, Tom Cruise's Minority Report,  may be prescient for our Internet of Things Future. Fascinating interview with WSJ's Sarah Murray and Price Waterhouse's Chris Curran explores tapping and mashing up the "real data' that's all around us now.

How can we replace guesses with real data.

Retail is "an interesting one" because it involves people and places. Emerging uses of sensors. Others are not so obvious like the power business where sensors can help "optimize the process".

Want To SEE Millennial Tech Future? Watch This @iSocialFanz Video #cloudtalk

More Than What is Said
The importance of this week's #cloudtalk Hangout On Air is what Brian does with Periscope, Meerkat and Youtube. Brian was simultaneously creating conversations using "real time video" in three channels.

The power of real time video CAN'T BE OVERSTATED. I didn't understand Periscope until Mark Traphagen went for a walk in Duke Garden. As Mark walk, shooting a real time video, he SAW me join and could discuss what he was seeing / doing.

WOW, think of real time videos as your way to have a conversation. Real time video breaks down the time delay AND you are left with a product, if you record your sessions, that will help others with similar questions later.

The immediacy is too cool to be denies. We've been wrestling with how to break down the silos between commerce and content. Brian's demonstration has our wheels turning.

@Brian Fanzois a #mustfollow curator too btw :). M

What's Next: Thoughts On Big TVs & The New Ecommerce

What's Next: Thoughts On Big TVs & The New Ecommerce | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

What's Next?
What's next may be the most important and urgent mystery.. Late last night I wandered around in the future a little thinking about how David Amerland's call for a "New Value System" http://davidamerland.com/seo-blog/692-what-if-we-had-a-new-value-system-for-goods-and-services.html might collide with a few other favorite ideas such as:

* David Edelman on Aligning With the Customer Journey:  http://hbr.org/web/ideas-in-practice/aligning-with-the-consumer-decision-journey

* Mark Traphagen on Google Plus https://plus.google.com/u/0/+MarkTraphagen/posts

* Phil Buckley on overcoming FEAR:

* Me on @ janlgordonCuratti sharing lessons in the new #branding from Red Bull: http://curatti.com/red-bulls-branding-lesson-media-companies-now/

Somewhere in there somewhere late at night and when its HOT is where the future starts and every thing changes...again.

IBM, AT&T To Offer 'Internet of Things' Systems | NetworkWorld.com

IBM, AT&T To Offer 'Internet of Things' Systems | NetworkWorld.com | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

AT&T and IBM will start jointly offering services designed to help municipalities, utility companies and other organizations use "Internet of things" technologies to better manage their infrastructure.

"There is a huge amount of growth of the things that are connected" to networks, said Michael Curry, IBM vice president of product

management. "When you have that many things connected in, you have a big data problem. Companies want to be able to take that data and use it to optimize operations and predict failures."

IBM estimates that there will be over 18 billion connected devices in the world by 2022. Examples of connected devices include mobile phones and sensors.

For this work, IBM's software division will work with AT&T's Advanced Solution unit. AT&T will provide network connectivity and IBM will provide the software and integration.

The two companies plan to help organizations build out systems that can collect data, wirelessly, from many remote end-nodes, an approach increasingly being called "The Internet of things" in the industry. The data can be analyzed and monitored, as well as fed to mobile devices for personnel in the field.

The initial targets for the service will be municipalities, mid-size utility companies and transportation companies, though any sort of organization could benefit from remote monitoring should consider IBM and AT&T's assistance, Curry said.

Cities could use this approach to better and control manage traffic. Utility companies could more closely monitor their customers' energy usage. Transportation companies could better manage their fleets of vehicles.

3D Printing Is HOT & Bound To Generate Cool Support Work For Crafty Starutps

3D Printing Is HOT & Bound To Generate Cool Support Work For Crafty Starutps | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

3D printing is a process of making a three-dimensional solid object of virtually any shape from a digital model.3D is achieved using an additive process.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

3-D printing can't get any HOTTER. We had Tom Simon come show us the latest and greatest in 3D printing last week at Atlantic BT. I suspect there will be all kinds of "fast prototyping" and "mobile warehousing" offshoots from 3D printing for the wise #startup #entrepreneur.

Remember the people who made the real money in the gold rush wasn't the miners but Sears and Roebuck. First one to figure out a cool use case for 3D printing please share.

It pushes the prototype market into hyperdrive, allowing the check for flaws to go forward immediately instead of waiting for full scale fabrication.
