Starships, Stargates, Wormholes and Interstellar Travel

Starships, Stargates, Wormholes and Interstellar Travel | Science, Space, and news from 'out there' | Scoop.it

Woodward has compiled his research and published papers into a book that explains the physics and technologies needed for interstellar space travel.

In "Making Starships and Stargates: The Science of Interstellar Transport and Absurdly Benign Wormholes," published in December by Springer, Woodward shares his theories, calculations, and even speculations, to construct rapid space transport and "gates" into the unknowns of space.

Sepp Hasslberger's insight:

A few courageous scientists are putting their necks out and braving ridicule from their colleagues with their 'far out' research...

Rupert Sheldrake - The Science Delusion

London Real talks to Biologist & Writer Dr. Rupert Sheldrake about his new book: The Science Delusion.

Sepp Hasslberger's insight:

Excellent interview and it promises to be an interesting book.

There are many assumptions at the basis of our materialistic science that are unquestioningly accepted.  Sheldrake examines the origin of ten of those assumptions and he finds that there is little evidence to back up our belief in certain 'laws of nature'.

ubuntu: We Are Not Alone - European Space Agency

ubuntu: We Are Not Alone - European Space Agency | Science, Space, and news from 'out there' | Scoop.it

The prestigious European Space Agency (ESA) has declared Phobos, the mysterious Martian moon, to be artificial. At least one-third of it is hollow and its origin is not natural, but alien in nature. The ESA is Europe's counterpart to NASA. Could this revelation motivate NASA to release the secrets it is harbouring?

Sepp Hasslberger's comment, February 23, 2013 12:14 PM
We should ask them whenever we find out who they are
Patsy Birdlady Cummings-Rockwell's comment, February 23, 2013 11:01 PM
I am sure we are too primitive for them to contact. We are still a warlike people who never have evolved into a peace loving Earth. I think they just want to study us from a distance, after all, the governments would just think they were a threat to humanity and arrest them or shoot them!
Sepp Hasslberger's comment, February 25, 2013 3:54 AM

Record Setting Asteroid Flyby expected 15 February

Record Setting Asteroid Flyby expected 15 February | Science, Space, and news from 'out there' | Scoop.it
On Feb. 15th an asteroid about half the size of a football field will fly past Earth closer than many man-made satellites. Since regular sky surveys began in the 1990s, astronomers have never seen an object so big come so close to our planet.
Sepp Hasslberger's insight:

It seems NASA is in control of those near-earth events, but the warning time - as in this case - is awfully short.

If this asteroid were on a collision course, it could do MAJOR damage. We really should know at least a year in advance, not just a few weeks.

Atoms Reach Record Temperature, Colder than Absolute Zero | Science, Space, and news from 'out there' | Scoop.it
We have entered a strange realm of "negative temperatures," which are hotter than infinity.
Sepp Hasslberger's insight:

A strange piece of research. Apparently below the threshold of absolute zero matter behaves differently from matter at positive temp. Like entropy is reversed, opening the way for over-unity in energy production...

Egyptian girl, Aisha Mustafa, invents new space propulsion system

Egyptian girl, Aisha Mustafa, invents new space propulsion system | Science, Space, and news from 'out there' | Scoop.it
A physics student from Egypt's Sohag University, Aisha Mustafa, 19, has patented a new type of propulsion system based on quantum theory that she says could propel space probes and artificial satellites without using any fuel.

Mustafa believes it is possible to use vacuum energy fields to create propulsion and build spacecraft propulsion systems that need little or no fuel to travel in space.

Mustafa expressed her appreciation to her faculty and university staff for providing materials, resources and support. She, however, lamented that there is no funding for a department of space science in her university and in Egyptian universities in general. She said this prevents development and research in the field of space technology.

She said: “Departments of astronomy and physics are only available. Although they are related to space sciences but unfortunately they aren’t into the specific field of my invention and they can’t practically test or implement it.”

NASA's Chandra Shows Milky Way is Surrounded by Halo of Hot Gas

NASA's Chandra Shows Milky Way is Surrounded by Halo of Hot Gas | Science, Space, and news from 'out there' | Scoop.it
Huntsville AL (SPX) Sep 25, 2012 -
Astronomers have used NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory to find evidence our Milky Way Galaxy is embedded in an enormous halo of hot gas that extends for hundreds of thousands of light years.

The estimated mass of the halo is comparable to the mass of all the stars in the galaxy.

If the size and mass of this gas halo is confirmed, it also could be an explanation for what is known as the "missing baryon" problem for the galaxy.

Baryons are particles, such as protons and neutrons, that make up more than 99.9 percent of the mass of atoms found in the cosmos. Measurements of extremely distant gas halos and galaxies indicate the baryonic matter present when the universe was only a few billion years old represented about one-sixth the mass and density of the existing unobservable, or dark, matter.

In the current epoch, about 10 billion years later, a census of the baryons present in stars and gas in our galaxy and nearby galaxies shows at least half the baryons are unaccounted for.

European asteroid smasher could bolster planetary defense

European asteroid smasher could bolster planetary defense | Science, Space, and news from 'out there' | Scoop.it
Planetary Defense is a concept very few people heard of or took seriously – that is until last week's humongous and totally unexpected meteor explosion over Russia sent millions of frightened residents ducking for cover, followed just hours later...
Sepp Hasslberger's insight:

Yes, we do need a capability to predict and, if necessary, destroy or deviate asteroids that potentially could impact earth and wreak great havoc. We have a space program, so at least let's do something useful with it. Good for ESA, the European Space Agency.

Are we all living inside a virtual simulation?

Are we all living inside a virtual simulation? | Science, Space, and news from 'out there' | Scoop.it

A study out of Bonn University has led to a new round of speculation about the nature of the universe.

The study proposes that cosmic rays undergo a strange energy shift. The energies are “re-fitted” to align with an underlying pattern or lattice. There is only one proper fit; no exceptions are permitted.

If the lattice is, indeed, the basic pixel-like Reality we are interacting with every day of our lives, then we could be living inside a created artifice.

A simulation.

Put this description alongside the hypothesis that the universe is a hologram: lines of code inscribed on a two-dimensional surface deliver instructions on how the lattice is built, and what its properties are.

In other words, the software which holographically projects the universe includes the exact structure of the lattice...

Sepp Hasslberger's insight:

Holographic universe, multiple universes and life's matrix of existence. Is it all created by ourselves? If so, an exciting picture emerges... In artistic manner, Jon Rappoport weaves those strings together.

Hydrogen Fuel On Demand With Silicon Nanoparticles | Chemical & Engineering News

Hydrogen Fuel On Demand With Silicon Nanoparticles | Chemical & Engineering News | Science, Space, and news from 'out there' | Scoop.it

Hydrogen fuel cells produce electricity without harmful emissions, but the devices face a significant hurdle to widespread use: Transporting the flammable fuel poses safety risks. So scientists have been working on systems for making the fuel where it’s needed, by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen gas. Now researchers report that silicon nanoparticles could help. The nanoparticles react with water to produce hydrogen much faster than larger forms of silicon can...

Sepp Hasslberger's insight:

This could help hydrogen technologies revolutionize our energy generation and transport, heating, and other things we need fossil fueld for today.

Thirteen little galaxies found to be moving mysteriously

Sepp Hasslberger's insight:

The view that things in space are rather "chaotic" is apparently losing traction. There is a precise order, and it does involve orbits, from the smallest particle to the largest groupings of galaxies...

“It’s a very unusual, unexpected configuration,” Navarro said. “It suggests our thinking about how galaxies form is totally wrong.”

First Glimpse of Ancient Mars: Conditions Suitable for Life

First Glimpse of Ancient Mars: Conditions Suitable for Life | Science, Space, and news from 'out there' | Scoop.it
NASA's Opportunity rover has begun examining ancient clays on Mars that would have formed in the presence of water with neutral acidity and stumbled across an intriguing new geologic puzzle.
Sepp Hasslberger's insight:

Mars is not the only place in this solar system where life has (or could have) existed. So NASA, after telling us that no way Mars could have life for some decades now seems to be "softening" to the evidence, or has a decision been made to slowly get us closer to the reality that there really IS life out there? We should be hearing more shortly, if that is the case...

Wubbo Ockels at TEDxAmsterdam - It is time to overcome our chronocentric world view

Prof. dr. Wubbo J. Ockels is a Dutch physicist, and also the Netherlands original astronaut. He is a Professor of Aerospace Sustainable Engineering and Technology at the University of Delft, and tries to stimulate a mentality change among Dutch citizens.

In this mind-bending TEDxAmsterdam talk, Ockels explains how time is created by human beings, as a way for our brains to make sense of gravity.

The speed of light is constant, because it depends on our time, which is made by us: its the clock by which we have calibrated our existence. Based on this premise, Ockels proposes a new way to explore life in our galaxy.

Exposed: Manufacturing conglomerate’s plan for moving humans off of Earth

Exposed: Manufacturing conglomerate’s plan for moving humans off of Earth | Science, Space, and news from 'out there' | Scoop.it
Sean Ragan of MAKE magazine just posted this amazing graphic, which he tracked down after being mildly obsessed with it for more than a decade. It’s an “Integrated Space Plan” drawn up by Rockwell International, a conglomerate of manufacturing companies in the aerospace, electronics, and truck component industries. The plan was created in the ’80s, and is supposed to be a detailed flow chart for establishing a permanent human presence in space. And it. Is. Amazing.

You can click to make this teeny version a little bigger, but for serious evaluation you should get the PDF from MAKE. Once you do that, you can try to actually follow the plan — it runs chronologically from top to bottom, the arrowed lines denote “evolutionary, supporting, or synergistic relationships” and “communication/data links,” and big circles are “plateaus of human technological achievement.” Or you can just bask in the fractal weirdness of the thing. Nodes on the chart include goals like “Interstellar Traversing World Ships” and “Create New Moons for Mars If Required.”

As far as I can tell we’re currently supposed to be in the “Routine Access to Space Achieved” plateau AND the “Biplanetary Civilization Evolves to Exploit Extraterrestrial Resources” plateau, so we can see how well this is working out..
