It's Christmas time, which also now means that it's Star Wars time!  Christopher Coleman is joined by Kristen Romanelli, Erik Woods and Justin Craig for this special 100th episode to talk about John Williams' original score for Star Wars:  The Last Jedi ... and a wee bit about the film, too.  They discuss new themes, returning themes, stand out cues on the soundtrack and, finally, rank the Star Wars films and original scores.

In volume 5 of the Soundcast Six series, Kristen Romanelli, Erik Woods and Christopher Coleman reunite to talk about some of the biggest stories in the soundtrack-world over the past two months including: The two tracks released/leaked from Danny Elfman's score for "Justice League," recent trailers like: Star Wars: The Last Jedi and The Black Panther and their music, Star Trek: Discovery, whether we have reached "peak Zimmer" or not, and reaching Tracksounds' 20th anniversary on the internet..

Composed and conducted by Mr. Williams, the new score does a perfectly adequate job heightening the emotion of the film, dramatizing and emphasizing character connections and those other things a good film score should do. Blah blah.

But compared to the other installments of this 40-year-old space opera — make no mistake, “Star Wars” is the very best sort of space opera — this score lacks freshness. It lacks chutzpah.
