While the "Music Inspired By..." trend may be over (and we are all thankful for it), I'm hoping that the success of the use of 70s and 80s hits don't become Hollywood's new gimmick. In the case of both X-Men: Days of Future Past, in particular the use of "Time in a Bottle," and Guardians of the Galaxy, the songs employed were just about all digetic pieces. In the case of Guardians, those songs are actually pretty important to the plot. It's not just about putting a great compilation of classic hits together. We're all self-proclaimed-experts in that now. It's about how those hits are used at a particular moment, in a particular scene, for a particular film. Oh. And let's not underestimate that thing which will never go away ... the original score. While songs may sell more CDs... err digital downloads, there are few films that can't feature songs-only and get away with it.

Amazon continues to leverage this great option of giving the consumer the immediate, digital download version of their respective CD purchase. Buy the CD but download and listen to the MP3 version until the CD arrives! This is how all online CD purchases should be.
