C’est officiel, les chercheurs de Trustwave ont développé un logiciel open source appelé Social Mapper. Ce nouvel outil de reconnaissance faciale permet, non pas de voter à l’aide d’un smartphone, mais de retrouver des individus sur les réseaux sociaux à partir d’un nom et d’une image.

Quel est l’intérêt d’un outil de reconnaissance faciale qui traque les profils sur les réseaux sociaux ?
À la base, l’outil de reconnaissance faciale a été conçu pour assister les ingénieurs en cybersécurité dans leurs travaux d’investigation. En effet, alors que ce type de recherche peut déjà être réalisé manuellement, l’arrivée d’un processus automatisé est une véritable révolution. Cela signifie que des requêtes pourront être exécutées beaucoup plus rapidement, mais surtout pour plusieurs personnes à la fois. En effet, Social Mapper est capable de localiser automatiquement des profils utilisateurs sur Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn ainsi que d’autres réseaux.

Kriminelle versenden derzeit vermehrt E-Mails, die angeblich von WhatsApp stammen. Den Empfängern wird darin vorgegaukelt, ihr Konto für den Messenger-Dienst werde bald ablaufen. In der E-Mail werden die Opfer unter Druck gesetzt und aufgefordert, eine Zahlung zu leisten, damit das WhatsApp-Konto bestehen bleibt. Es handelt sich hierbei um eine sogenannte Phishing-Attacke, mit der die Betrüger an persönliche Daten ihrer Opfer gelangen wollen.

Aktuelle Berichte zu der betrügerischen E-Mail stammen von Internetseiten wie Netzwelt, aber auch die österreichische Seite Mimikama berichtete schon vor einer Weile davon. Wir erklären Ihnen, wie Sie sich vor dem Phishing-Angriff schützen können.

A new social media network named Mastodon popped up a few months ago and is designed to deliver a decentralised, open-source experience, but its this unique structure that may make its members vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

Malwarebyte's researcher Zammis Clark blogged that the decentralised nature of the site's construction, which he said helps eliminate ads, a primary selling point for users, also leaves the social network open to hackers. The site is very different from Facebook, Twitter and other networks.
Instead of being hosted by a corporate entity on its server system Mastodon members can set up their own server if they wish, called in “instance” by the Mastodon community, and then have people join Mastodon through that server. But here is where the problem arises.

Each person's “instance” receives a special domain name, for example mastodon.instance1, and anyone registering on that instance would receive a username like johnsmith.mastodon.instance1.

Where things go awry, Clark said, is the usernames can be replicated across all the "instances", so on mastodon.instance2 there could be a johnsmith.mastodon.instance2. This creates a situation where there are no verified accounts.

Ein Sicherheitsforscher hat eine Hintertür in WhatsApp gefunden, die es Facebook erlaubt, alle von Nutzern versendeten Nachrichten zu lesen - entgegen der Behauptung Facebooks, dass genau das unmöglich sei. Die Verschlüsselung von WhatsApp wäre damit plötzlich nichts mehr wert.

Twitter hopes to curb harassment once and for all by giving users the ability to filter keywords and hashtags...

OVER THE NEXT few days, Twitter will add new features intended to help curb abuse on the platform. Users will be able filter out certain keywords, phrases, user names, and hashtags in their mentions, Twitter says. You’ll also have the option to mute threads. The company is also revamping its abuse reporting system so that bystanders can report harassment and hate speech directly rather than leaving that option solely to the person on the receiving end.

And it’s about time.

Eine überraschende Verwaltungsanordnung des Hamburger Datenschutzbeauftragten Johannes Caspar bringt den Datenaustausch von Whatsapp zu Facebook zum Erliegen.

Damit hatte wohl niemand gerechnet – durch eine Verwaltungsanordnung hat der Hamburger Beauftragte für Datenschutz Johannes Caspar Facebook untersagt, Daten von deutschen Whatsapp-Nutzern zu ermitteln oder diese zu speichern. Diese Verwaltungsanordnung aus Hamburg gilt in Deutschland für Facebook deshalb, weil der Konzern seinen Firmensitz in der Hansestadt betreibt. Sie gilt ab sofort, Facebook muss sogar bereits übermittelte Daten löschen, wie Tagesschau.de berichtet.

Whatsapp, das von Facebook vor zwei Jahren für 20 Milliarden US-Dollar erworben worden war, hatte damals seinen Nutzern versprochen, seine Daten nicht mit Facebook auszutauschen. Nun aber erklärte Whatsapp, insbesondere Telefonnummern aus den Adressbüchern der Nutzer an Facebook weiterzugeben, damit das soziale Netzwerk besser Freunde vorschlagen und passendere Werbung anzeigen könne – Macwelt.de berichtete .

Zumindest nicht, wenn man vorhat, in die USA einzureisen. Auch die Frage, ob man sich an "terroristischen Aktivitäten, Spionage, Sabotage oder Völkermord" beteiligen wolle, sollte man wohl lieber verneinen.

Die Ausfüllhilfe beim Papierbogen oder elektronischen Formular lässt fairerweise gar keinen Zweifel aufkommen: Wer nicht hier und bei einer Reihe von anderen "kritischen" Fragen durchweg "Nein" ankreuzt, dessen Antrag wird "meist" nicht genehmigt - oder wohl eher mit an Sicherheit grenzender Wahrscheinlichkeit abgelehnt.

Demnächst wird in dem Formular (PDF) womöglich ein neues Feld zu finden sein: "Bitte tragen Sie hier Informationen zu Ihren Online-Präsenzen ein: Provider, Plattform und Social-Media-Kennung." Worauf die geplante neue Abfrage zielt, erklärt die US-Zoll- und Grenzschutzbehörde so: "Das Sammeln der Social-Media-Daten wird die bestehenden Analyse- und Ermittlungsverfahren verbessern und gibt der Heimatschutzbehörde ein zusätzliches Werkzeug an die Hand, kriminelle Aktivitäten und Verbindungen klarer und sichtbarer werden lassen." Die Beantwortung der zusätzlichen Frage soll freiwillig sein - doch ist es ein sehr naheliegender Verdacht, dass das Freilassen des Feldes automatisch Minuspunkte im Sicherheitsscoring bedeuten würde.

Twitter’s been combatting harassment for years. The latest effort: quelling its horde of anonymous, hostile egg accounts. But for many users, Twitter’s abuse problem has long since undermined its value as a platform for creative communication. That’s what makes Mastodon—a free, open-source, and increasingly popular six-month-old Twitter alternative—so intriguing.

Mastodon has created a diverse yet welcoming online environment by doing exactly what Twitter won’t: letting its community make the rules. The platform consists of various user-created networks, called instances, each of which determines its own laws. One instance could ban sexist jokes and Nazi logos, while another might practice radically free speech. (In this way, Mastodon is not unlike a network of discretely moderated message boards crossed with a Tweetdeck-like interface.) Users choose for themselves which instance they want to join and select from a host of privacy and anti-harassment settings.

Oh, and the character limit is 500, not 140. In essence, Mastodon is an experiment in whether individually moderated communities can make a social network like Twitter more civil.

In April of this year, we registered some mass attacks on Facebook users in Russia. As a result, many Russian-speaking users of the social network fell victim.

The attackers use a compromised Facebook account to post a link to an adult video that is supposedly on the popular YouTube service. In order to attract potential victims, “likes” are added from the account holder’s list of friends. The fraudsters rely on the user or their friends being curious and those who would like to watch an “18+” video.

We strongly recommend not clicking such links and not installing suspicious browser extensions. It’s also worth checking if any suspicious extensions have already been installed. If any are discovered, they should be immediately removed via the browser settings, and the passwords for sites that are visited most often, especially online banking, should be changed.

Frage nach Facebook-Konto bei Einreise in die USA geplant
Urlauber und andere Reisende in die USA sollen künftig nach ihren Social-Media-Konten gefragt werden, so das Department of Homeland Security. Die Angabe soll zwar freiwillig erfolgen, aber trotzdem dürfte sich ein Großteil der Betroffenen zur Auskunft gedrängt fühlen.
Das Department of Homeland Security der USA fordert in einem offiziellen Antrag, das bei der Reise in die USA auch Angaben zu den Social-Media-Aktivitäten abgefragt werden. "Please enter information associated with your online presence - Provider/Platform - Social media identifier". So lautet die Frage, die künftig etwa im Esta-Formular oder bei den Anträgen auf ein Visum zu beantworten ist (auf Deutsch ungefähr: "Bitte tragen Sie Informationen zu Ihren Onlinekonten ein - Provider/Plattform - Social-Media-Kennung").
