Cyber Security Evaluation Tool Released by DHS...

 

The Department of Homeland Security launched a product called Cyber Security Evaluation Tool (CSET) in the effort of aiding organizations in properly securing their digital property.

 

The National Cyber Security Division of DHS and the National Institute of Standards and Technology got involved in the making of this tool that should help companies better evaluate the structure of their network safety.

 

This way, they'll know what are the weak links and what needs to be improved so cybercriminal activities can be prevented and combated.

AntiSec Hackers Hit in Philippines and Peru...

Hackers affiliated with Anonymous and its AntiSec campaign have hacked into the website of Filipino Congress, as well as ten sites operated by the Peruvian government.

Originally launched by LulzSec, Operation Anti-Security (AntiSec) calls for the leaking of confidential data stolen from governmental websites with the purpose of exposing corruption and unethical behavior.

Many websites have been hit in the name of AntiSec so far, including several belonging to US government contractors, however, it seem the campaign is expanding all over the world.

New Mac Backdoor Found in the Wild...

Security researchers warn of a newly identified Mac backdoor that was found in a malicious archive uploaded anonymously to Virus Total last month.

The Virus Total archive is called "PortalCurrent events-2009 July 5.rar" suggesting that it's a local copy of the Wikipedia July 5, 2009, current events page.

The archive has clearly been modified because the folder includes photos from events on June 15th 2011 as well as two executable files, one for Windows and one for Mac.

Hackers Hit Italian Cybercrime Police Unit...A group of hackers claims to have broken into the network of the Italian National Anti-Cybercrime Center for the Protection of Critical Infrastructure (CNAIPIC) and stolen confidential documents and other data.

CNAIPIC is a specialized unit of the Italian Postal and Communications Police established in 2008 to investigate and prevent cyber crimes that could endanger the country's critical infrastructure.
