Durch "Keyless Entry" kann man ins Auto steigen und den Motor starten, ohne den Schlüssel zu benutzen. Mit der passenden Hardware können das allerdings auch Autodiebe. Alle 24 vom ADAC untersuchten Pkw-Modelle waren dafür anfällig.

The result of their work was a hacking technique—what the security industry calls a zero-day exploit—that can target Jeep Cherokees and give the attacker wireless control, via the Internet, to any of thousands of vehicles. Their code is an automaker’s nightmare: software that lets hackers send commands through the Jeep’s entertainment system to its dashboard functions, steering, brakes, and transmission, all from a laptop that may be across the country.


Details of precisely what Jeep's update fixes aren't made clear, but the car's Uconnect Access system boasts that it allows car owners to start their engines, unlock doors or flash their headlamps "from almost anywhere. Just send a remote command from your computer or the Uconnect Access smartphone app."

CSO - All those computerized conveniences in your new car -- dozens of them -- also make it a tempting, rolling menu of attack possibilities for hackers, who can exploit vulnerabilities to steal your car, eavesdrop on what you think are private conversations and even sabotage systems that could make it crash.

 

And it is only recently that auto manufacturers are starting to pay closer attention to them,writes Jim Finkle for Reuters. "Intel's McAfee unit, best known for software that fights PC viruses, is one of a handful of firms that are looking to protect the dozens of tiny computers and electronic communications systems that are built into every modern car," he wrote.
